• Exmark ZTR's are awesome

Gang,
I was on vacation this past week and I demo'd a 48" 21hp ZTR Exmark HP. The spot was 1 1/2 acres just cut, no trim or edging. The guy just bought the place and wanted the grass cut. He will finish it off. And the ground was bumpy & uneven, whatever from the tractor used to bushhog the week before. I came out and go $100 for the job. Just under 2 hours. Man was I happy. But my point is the Exmark even under the conditions of this crappy yard with dead grass all over the place from the bushhog, it still cut awesome, and I am very impressed. I am going to get the ZTR HP 52" cut withe the 23hp kohler on it. I can't wait. Dealer said will do me one for $6,899.99 regular $7,299.99. Seems pretty good to me.

Cole, I believe that would be worth it! Sounds like a great mower! I did see a new Gravely with a 25 hp kaw. 60" deck for the same price in a regional auto trader. Never used one though! Have you demoed the JD's yet? Never used their ztrs either, in fact, never have used a ztr! Want to though.

Just thought I would put in my 2cents worth. I bought the eXmark hp 21 horse power ztr 44in. new at the end of the season(the reason I got the 44" deck was so I could get the thing in fenced yards)I figured the speed and menuverablity wouls make up for the deck size. I had never used a ztr before and thought I was going to bring the thing back the first week. There is no better mower for flat mowing, but when it comes to the hills I almost killed my self. (hit a tree) on the slopes the mower has a tendency to just head down hill when the grass is wet and it is dangerous. It also puts small divits in the lawn when turning (I posted on this before)I think I just need practice but I don't think anyone can just hop on and go. []

fear & kl,

This was my first time to cut a clients yard on a ztr as well. I ran one for a few minutes but never cut with it. It was great experience. I will not waste my money on a regular rider.
kl,
I too divoted a couple times. just gotta be careful and i just learned to not really 0 turn and i didnt divot any more.

Fear,

I rode around on my friend's (LCO) JD 757 ZTR.. The thing is sweet, but I don't think its sweet enough to spend $10,000 for it..

Quality! You insist on thinking that somebody is gonna charge you the MSRP on one of the JD's! If your friend bought it for that much, tell him he's dumb! Cuz I priced it at my dealer for about $8300 w/o wheelin and dealing any! I swear, for as much money as you make it seems like you could be a little less tight! but i guess that's how ya got there.

JD's webpage lists MSRP,, the dealer would never sell it to you for that, or at least the dealers here tell me that.

Fear,

He paid $8900 for it + 8% tax = $9612, which is very close to $10000...

I'm not saying I don't have the money, I just don't find spending $4000 more for a green mower very appealing.. There's too many other things I could spend that saved money on. I'm also not saying they are bad mowers.. They are great, just not what I want.. I want something that works, gets the job done well, gives a good cut, and does what I need it to do. I'm not concerned with how much I payed for the thing.. I just like Lesco because they are great mowers, that cost about half the price of JD's, and they offer excellent service.. Thats all I care about..

I run two 60" 25HP Exmarks. I have run w/b up to the ZTR's.

Once you go with the red ZTR you will never go back. When you cut twice as much grass in the same amount of time, then your making money.

The bigger price tag now will far exceed in profits later. That is of course, if your in it for the long haul.

FYI - My JD dealer offered me a 757 at 7999. last week. I live in Indianapolis. He also sells Hustler & Exmark. The JD is a nice machine. They sold 80 of the 757's last summer - 1st year for their ZTR.

8% sales tax!? wow, here in Indiana it just moved up to 6% from 5%. AND I THOUGHT THAT WAS THE PITS! hey, whatever ya do, don't buy that new stroker when ya get it in New York! Maybe like New Hampshire! they don't have any sales tax right? one of those states up there doesn't.

Kfish,

Thanx! I'll tell my dealer about that 7900! lol, I'll tell'em if he don't go lower Indy isn't a bad trip for saving a few hundred bucks! J/K i don't need another mower right now.

That sounds like a great price. I bought a 52inch Toro Zmaster this year and love it more than anything. Its the best single piece of equipment I have ever bought. BTW, Toro bought Exmark so they are basically the same thing. I am buying all new Exmark WBs though. I owned exmarks now for 10 years. Great mowers man!

As far as hills, be very careful. I was told the Toro was more nimble on hills compared to some others. So thats part of the reason I bought it. But within one week, I had crashed about 6 times on hills, and literally ripped the steal grass shield off the deck. Folded it like an accordian. But once you get the hang of it, you'll learn to back down the hills to get grass, rahter then sideways or straight down. Those are the finesse skills that took about a month to gain, using everyday. Have fun and get that mower before someone else does. ;-)

Thanks for the tips. But mostly here flat land. Maybe a slope on the edge of properties near ditches or something but not many. Haven't even had to cut anything to steep yet.
