  • Thoughts on Great Dane model

They seem to have really big engines for walk-behinds. You really dont hear much about them. Any feed back would be great
    thanks

The engine size on the Scamper's is 15 & 17hp which is the same as or less than most other manufacturers.

The engine size on the Surfers is equivilent to Wright Stander's.

& the Gateway is a beast upon itself.

Pros and cons to all mowers. I'm getting ready to purchase a 2003 61" mid mount. Neighbor mows commercial w/ GD. Likes certain things better than Skaggs (switched from Skaggs to GD). I think they're a good mower....................
        Thanks, Joey....

We still run 4 old surfers, 2500 to 3300 hours great, last season we bought new super surfer, it sucks no rear wheel traction, we use it but ended up buying 2 husky ztr, great mower not even in the same class, I would look at something else not the GD.

I sold my GD after having to weld the deck too many times. I almost rebuilt that entire deck. I run Wright Standers and have better luck. Though on my older stander the deck broke right off... but Wright Mfg installed a new deck for free under warr. The newer stander has been flawless. I will not go back to Greatdane. I’m kind of glad it’s gone. Input from the new owner, (homeowner 500 miles away from me) he likes it a lot. He says it cuts well and runs fine. (For the 1 or 2 hrs a week he puts on it)

I have a pic on my web site of my old Greatdane ZTR. BTW those stripes that it’s sitting on is from my Wright stander, not the Greatdane. It was just brought in for the picture. I hope you are happy with your mower, whatever you decide to buy.

Yes they are. Great Dane = John deere. Yellow and green they all the same.

Even though John Deere owns Great Dane, I wonder if that just means that John Deere bought the company and has nothing to do with the existing design, or now incorporates their thoughts and design skills into the product.

pros and cons on just about every machine out there. i know a guy that has one and loves it. he told me last season that when his goes down, he's gonna get another one. he's had it for about 4 years now with no major issues at all. just depends on what you want.

                        Good Afternoon,

Dane uses 7ga. fabricated deck while Deere uses a 7ga. stamped. The OPC's are in different locations & there are Dane models such as the 36 SS & Gateway exclusive to Dane.

Deere bought dane for a few patents, that is all. They are two different machines, demo and you will see.
