  • Question on w/b

I have been reading these boards for several weeks now and I really enjoy all the helpful information you guys have. I've done mostly small residential work up until this point but I was thinking about stepping it up to larger jobs.I'm using a 21" Toro now and I have been looking at my local dealer and they have a 44" hydro w/ a floating deck and pistol grip for $2995. Is this a good deal? The bottom of the line 36" starts at $2995 and goes up from there. Do you think the 44" might be overkill with me just beginning larger jobs? Also do you prefer pistol grip or t-bar controls? Any input you guys might have would be appreciated. Thanks

The hydro unit for about $3k is a good price IMHO, assuming it comes with a 13-15hp motor.

The 44 would definitely not be overkill, in fact if your looking to expand your operation you will quickly find that it is not enough -LOL!!!

The T-Bar design is much more ergonomically friendly then a pistol grip, but basically comes down to operator preference. Case in point:

Two brothers started their maintenance division together last year. They bought a pistol grip wb and a t-bar wb. By the end of the season the guy who used the T-Bar preferred it over the pistol grip, just as the Pistol Grip operator preferred his set-up over his brothers.

I currently own a toro 44" w/ a 17hp kawasaki and love it. It does real good on small and medium size lawns. However I do plan on getting a bigger one this coming up season for the bigger lawns that I do. I do suggest getting it with the t bar handle, it is a lot easier on the hands. Also that is a real good price, only 2995? Around here they are going for close to 5000.[xx(]
