  • Hows Honda?

How are the Honda push mowers? I have the TORO 2 cycle now which they have quit making, and the new 4 cycle are a couple hundred more now, I was buying at $940.00 for the 2 cycle and they want $1112.00 for the 4 cycle. The honda 4 cycle I looked at was $600.00 is that a good mower?

Which Honda is this? Two speed, three speed, Hydrostat (doubt it for that price). I use Honda's (21") and they are very durable and start on the first pull and make an excellant cut. For close to $940 you can get a hydrostat Commercial HRC216, which is one of the best mowers around, IMO. To save some money they have a two speed version.

      You've got to be kidding!!

Why in the world would they stop making the 2 cycle mowers? Those things are built like tanks! In fact, I was just getting ready to go out and buy another one...

Ya they have stopped production due to EPA regulations on emmisions and are only producing the 4 cycle now with a Kawasaki engine. My dealer still has a couple of the 2 cycles on hand, I was just wondering how they compared to Honda, the Toro's are tanks!!!!!

          Phillip,

I just got off the phone with the Toro dealer that I use here in Tulsa. She said the 2 cycle engine on the Toro 21" Prolines will be replaced by either a four cycle kawasaki or a four cycle honda. (That's right... a honda engine on a Toro frame!) As far as pricing, the Toro with the Honda is $999 and the one with the kawasaki (4 cycle) is $959.

So who makes the better four cycle engine? Kawasaki or Honda?

Jack D.would suggest purchasing as many 2-stroke Suzuki's as you can affford. Neither the Honda, nor the Kaw. come close to the Suzuki for comfort (lighter), ease of maint., & durability.

Jack D. has on order all the remaining stock of 5.5 Suzuki Proline's in the South of NA region.

If one had to chose between the Honda & Kaw., one should go w/the Kaw:More Guts.

Jack what about next Year they wont be around, I want something I can count on getting parts for down the road. Also what about the EPA? One of the big cities I do work in is considering banning 2 cycle weedeaters and blowers, because i hear they will get more federal aid if they are more enviroment friendly. This is a big push right now from some tree huggers in this area that serve on some concils now.

Proline 21" mower parts are the same as Proline's equipped w/Honda or Kaw's. Suzuki engine parts, in the unlikely event you ever need them, will be avail. for many years.

Truthfully, I'm not too upset about the engine change... Honda and Kawasaki both make good engines.

I'm just happy that the deck and other components of the mower will remain the same. I accidentally ran over all kinds of stuff this past year and the Toro just keeps on keepin' on... Great mower!
