  • Husky Salesman

New to this so please bare with me. Looking to buy a new ZTR. I have looked at Scag, eXmark, and today Husqvarna. I was totally sold on the Scag(48" 19HP KAW) but the closest dealer is about 35 miles from my home. A friend of mine has just opened a store about a mile from my house. He has been in the business for a long time and seems to know what he is talking about. He sells Grasshoppers and Husqvarnas. I already own a Scag 36" WB and have been very satisfied with it. Okay, now this was his sales pitch. He said that Scags are discounted commercial equipment ( in other words - Cheap)! He also said that in 10 years the only brands left would be John Deere and Husqvarna because the two mentioned would buy out all the others. Also, he said that husky trimmers and such were as good or better than Stihl. Alright, I know he's trying to make a sale, but would love to hear your opinions.

    Thanx

I have a husqvarna 326L trimmer and a bt145 back pack blower and love them both. Cant say about mower though. I have a friend with a grasshopper and he said its the best mower he has ever owned and he has owned several different brands.

Just my $.02 as for SCAGs being cheap. I have an older model, 48" belt driven w/b with a 14 Kawi. on it. Last Saturday comoig home from a spring clean up, the strap holding the mower snapped and the mower barrel rolled at about 35 to 40 mph onto the middle of the highway. Needless to say it missed everyone and no one was injured, but I picked up the pieces, and brought it home. Yesterday I tinkered with it, the only real damage, a slightly belt handle( so small not even going to bother with it), a dent in the motor cover, the four bolts holding the front wheel snapped, and the belt cover flew off. Put all back together, changed the oil and filter and fired it up! Not a single problem to report! The deck is even straight! So as for scag being cheap, I don't think so! I have to say I am impress with the entire construction of the mower. I think that incident was one hell of test for it.
