Checked the Briggs website, and it confirms an agreement to purchase Simplicity. But nowhere does it mention Toro. Toro is a huge company, and I would be astounded if Briggs could cough up enough cash/collateral to secure both Simplicity AND Toro at the same time. So, I believe your source is mistaken in the statement of purchasing Toro.

Maybe it was that Toro had an offer for Simplicity also. Toro could probably handle the purchase of B&S before the other way around.Comment

I don't know much about Toro...
but I don't think they are near as big as The Largest Small Engine Manufacture in the World?
For any & just about all Small Engine Shops, they must be a Briggs Service Center to even make it & keep the doors open. I've never seen a successful shop that wasn't a Briggs Service Center?
I doubt that even 10% of the shops are Toro & or eXmark Dealers if that many & I doubt if less than 90% are Briggs Dealers?
I could be wrong... Maybe Toro owns a lot of other Companies that I don't know about?GrassMaster, LSF Administrator!

Lawn and Landscape Magazine, and their website, has the story that confirms that B & S plans to buy Simplicity Mfg. The agreement signed Wednesday is for $227.5 million. Simplicity's net sales for the 10 month period ending April 30 was $285 million; and net sales for 12 months ending June 30 are expected to be $350 million.Comment
