  • Homeowner looking for a decent trimmer, who makes Cub Cadet trimmers?

    Guys,

I've burned up my 2nd Ryobi. First one lasted 3 years, 2nd one lasted about 45 days. I've sworn off Ryobi stuff and would like to step up to something more reliable that's going to last me for the next 5+ years. The main issue I have is that I had the Ryobi split boom and still have the edger and blower attachment. I know many of you don't think much of the split boom designs, but for me this works great (less engines to start, less storage in the garage, etc) Both of these attachments work extremely well for me and I'd like to stick with a new trimmer that can work with these. I looked at the Echo 210SB but it would require me to buy a new edger attachment and then I'd have to buy a seperate blower. Troy-Bilt and Homelite and nearly everything else that takes my attachments appears to be made by Ryobi (same crap with a new badge). Today I spotted the Cub Cadet split boom trimmer at Lowes and it can take the Ryobi attachments I have. This one doesn't appear to be made by Ryobi. It seems to be built well and has a more commercial quality look and feel to it. Does anyone know who makes Cubs trimmers?

Taking into consideration that I only mow one yard and a Ryobi was fine with me (until it broke that is) would the Cub Cadet be a reliable unit for my needs? Are there any brands out there that use the EZ-Link attachments that I should look into?

What you are looking at are all under the same parent company, MTD. Troybuilt, Cub Cadet, Ryobi, MTD and Lesco are all going to be similar in many ways.

I have hear a lot of people that have had problems with their Ryobi equipment but have also known and heard of people who have had long good service from the Ryobi equipment including myself. (I also run alot of Cub Cadet equipment)

I have a 5 year old Ryobi with interchangeable attachments. (Tiller, hedge trimmer, string trimmer and edger) I use mine every day along with my Cub Cadet deicated equipment. I think as long as you get the commercial version you sould be okay.

I can't remember right of hand what model number Ryobi I have but it is suppose to be the commercial version and I have not seen that model around for a while.

Thanks... what about Toro trimmers? Home Depot carries these and they seem nice and they also accept the Ryobi attachments. Are these just rebadged Ryobi's too or does Toro actually make their own?
