  • Scag ztr's

Hello everyone! I am interested in purchasing a new Scag ztr. I have owned an Exmark 31hp gas and a 27hp diesel both with 72" decks. I am thinking about getting the Scag and would like to know if it (the Scag) mkulches as good as the Exmark? I am interested in the 61" deck w/ mulch kit and possibly the 72". I have been told that the scag is a "tank" but the mulching aspect of the Scag is terrible.
Any feedback and info would be Greatly appreciated! Even opinions on which ztr is better as far as durability etc.
    Thanks!

the only prob with a scag mulching is the darn thing tends to go to fast if ya slow to mulching pace it does well. Get the correct baffles for it n yer set the sdvantage deck when first came out had a few probs. Late 2003 they fixed that. I have to both 48" one with many hours, I keep the blades sharp and away I go.

We have two Scag Tiger Cubs they cut great and are holding up well. I dont think that you will find a more heavy duty mower. Are you looking at the Turf Tiger or Saber Tooth.

Scag is a good machine, Never mulched with one, had the 29 DFI engine it was very efficient and powerful. The only reason I don't have one anymore is dealer support.

I own a 48" tiger cub with a 19 horse kawasaki and I also own a 61" wildcat with a 27 horse Kohler. The cub mulches excellent in everything EXCEPT for pretty thick fescue. My wildcat is excellent in everything. Just make sure you get the largest or as close to the largest engine as you can afford. There isn't breaking one, they are definitely the heaviest built machines period.

Scag is the primo-machine. I have a 62" Turf Tiger-HD Commercial and I am not happy about sticking out almost $13,000 for it but after having it for about a month I'm thinking about buying another one! My wife is complaining about being the Walk Behind operator and I ride the TT. She wants one now. UGH! WOMEN

When I get to a property its about 4 acres and its super thick and tall I start out on 3" and then drop down to 2 1/2" do a double cut - golf course style and go. It takes us together about 45 minutes. Lots of trees and trimming. But I don't care I'm on the rider!

            Good luck.

I have had Walkers,Grasshoppers,Toros/Exmarks and now Scags. I freaking LOVE the Scags. Nothing wrong with any of of the other mowers, great mowers all(I just personaly hate Walkers) but I never actually thought the rest were all that great. Scag is far and away my favorite ZTR.

                Price

What is a reasonable price for a 27hp Kohler Command Turf tiger? Local dealer wants $9000 non-negotiable.

you should be able to get a scag turf tiger witha liquid cooled 29 hp kawaski dfi with a 61 " advantage deck for about 9700.00 and think you would like it better than the kohler
