I have recently recieved a Troy-Bilt TB425CS split shaft trimmer from a friend of mine. I have no experience with gas powered trimmers. I have only used electric until now. This trimmer has been sitting for about 1 year without any use. I started the trimmer up today and it started on its second pull. When I pull the trigger back the RPMs increase. My question is: However, when the trigger is within the range of about 1/3 left to reach full throttle it will stall.

This problem exists when it is cold and after it has been running for a while.

I drained the gas tank and refilled it with fresh gas before attempting to start it.

Other than this problem the trimmer runs great.

Any advice on what to try or to adjust. If any other info is needed just let me know.

    Thanks in advance.

I f the carb has 2 mixture screws on the side of the carburetor body, turn the one furthest from the engine, and closest to the air-filter couterclockwise 1/2-1 turn....

On adjustable carbs if you look closely where the screws enter the carb body, you will see a very small L in the casting ,identifying the low speed mixture screw...

The same for the Other screw... The carb body will be marked H, for high speed screw... Regardless the one closest to the engine in front of the throttle plate will be the low speed /idle screw, and the outer one closest to the airfilter behind the throttle plate will be the high speed adjustment screw...

You can also verify if the screw is out of adjustment ,or the high speed section of the carb clogged ,by trying to run at full throttle with the choke on half choke, or partial choke.... The passageways in the high speed section of the carb probably got slightly clogged with varnish during the year of storage...

Opening the H screw adjustment to allow more fuel to freely flow through, or running the engine with the choke partially on sometimes will help fuel to flow through , and self clean any clogged up passageways....

If the carb is non adjustable, with plugs where the screws used to be, sometimes just running the engine choking the crap out of it will pull any garbage through the system, restoring the machine to proper operating conditions....

Give it a look ,and a try, you may get lucky, and avoid a carb overhaul...

If you turn the screw out, and it then runs at full throttle, but will not achieve a clean, full , high RPM limit slowly turn the H needle back in clockwise while holding at full throttle untill it smooths out ,and reaches maximum rpm`s....

    Good luck, TRANNY....
GOD BLESS AMERICA (MY HOME SWEET HOME ) !!!!!
