Sounds like to me time to get a new trimmer and keep the old one for parts. If you replaced to starter assembly it is probably toast.

How old and what brand are your trimmers? Did they get rained on prior to this happening? I got caught in a good down pour once and had to tear the equipment down and clean them up good.

i called the repair shop... the guy seems to think the problem is the little spring in the pawl, guess i'll try that

it is an echo trimmer ( 2 of them are srm2400 and one is the srm2100) and this is the third time this year that one has done out like this so if the spring is the only problem i guess i'll be ahead for next year's equipment since i have already replaced the others with new ones ( i always save the old ones for parts...)

but i'll let you know for sure if this is the cure

          thanks guys

Hey Marbs. The repair man sounds accurate. A friend of mine has two echo trimmers. He replaced the starter assembly aslo, he went to buy new trimmer and was talking to the technician while there and he said may be a spring he can replace, he replace it and it works great now.

Beat me too it marbs. I was going to say that if your pull cord won't recoil, the spring is shot. Not the starter assembly. That is odd though, I have had those go on mowers, but never a trimmer. Oh well, glad you got it fixed.
