  • Trailer Tires

Im not having any luck w/ trailer tires and will again purchase new tires for my trailers. I usually just approve what is recomended and write a check. What is eveyone using? I would like to go in this time with somewhat of an idea what i need. I run 2- 16' dual axel 7000 lbs. capacity trailers. I usually haul only 2-Zs and a w/b on each but you know how it is every once in a while i am forced to load a bobcat or some other crazy load. A bobcat pretty much maxes these tire out. I think they are 4-ply. What should i look at?

    Hello Seascape:

If you are considering on hauling fairly loads, I would look for 6 to 8 Ply Truck Highway Tires for your trailer.

If you feel that you're overloading your 4 Plys, Go ahead & get the heavier tires.

Also the thicker ply should help reduce the number of flats you are having. I bet you have far more problems with the Rear Tires than the Fronts, Correct?

I use only Carlile Trailer tires. They are the best on the market and can handle heavy loads.

Check with Goodyear as well. I think they have a line called "Marathon" radial trailer tires.

Look for a Trailer tire, not a car tire. It will will have a number on it like- T-205/75/15 ( T- Trailer,P-passenger car,LT- Light Truck), go with a heavy ply such as an 8ply
Carlisles are pretty inexpensive and usually all Walmarts have them, I have not had good luck with them, prolly just luck of the draw though. I run the Cooper brand with no complaints. Watch the size of the tire, depending on how low your fenders are mounted a tall tire such as a 235/75/15 might rub under a heavy load. The T-205/75/15 is the more common size I have seen on the tandem axle trailers.

Wel it started raining to day so i took both trailers up to the goodyear shop a slapped tires all the way around both. Specifically asked for trailer tires 6 ply. $650 for 8 mounted. So much for my truck tires this weekend. I dont know if i got robbed or not but my trailer pulls much better and i did notice the other trailer had 2 plys on it. Hopefully i'll see a differance.
