  • Trailer damaged

I'm pulling a 6'x12' open trailer with an F150. The problem is that with the trailer full and the jack adjusted all the way up the jack still catches the apron on the way out of MY driveway. It damaged the jack and the a frame on trailer. The problem is a combo' of the hitch being low and sidewalk crossing driveway higher than road. How can I raise hitch height to avoid this as I have to offload trailer each time before backing into driveway, this is a time waster and pain in butt. Is there such a thing as an adjustable ball hitch that can be raised/lowered as needed. Any info' would be appreciated as this is a new trailer. Thanks to all.

I think I know what you are talking about. I had the same problem. What I did was undo the ball and flip it to the other side of the hitch. This will give you about 2 or 3 more inches clearance. If you have already done this, then I don't know what to tell ya.

You can buy a trailer jack that bolts to your frame and swivels out of the way when you are not using it. check out the site bellow

I have had to do what Shawn is talking about by flipping my receiver over so instead of dropping down to the ball, it raises up. I had to do this for my two axle trailer to better load the hitch and keep the trailer for rocking from being too balanced. If you really need a lift, you can get recievers with different drops in them and turn them over.

Damaged the trailer frame? Is the driveway or sidewalk even still there? LOL I would get a swivel jack that swings up and down and flip your receiver over right away. This will cause a big headache if you do this on a clients property. Also im a big fan of airshocks. They make for a firm ride but often give you an extra edge in highth that helps on many of loads. You can probally get 3" lift from these and they only run about $50. Pocket change compared to what your going to pay to staighten you traler.
