I'm currently in the market for a $4000 ZTR rider and found a Snapper 60" 25hp w/ joystick. It's <1 year old and they are giving it to me for $3500. Im only going to be cutting about 8hrs a week. Would this be a good mower? P.S. Heard anything about the joystick?

Mr. Hunter, my dealer sells Snapper 21" models & asked me to demo the ZTR. He also sells eXmark, Husquarvana, Toro, Walker & Ferris & was considering carrying the larger Snapper units. I do not use ZTR's frequently but I found the controls much less precise than the standard sticks. The cut quality in lush growth was also poor & the unit rattled. Snapper 21"s have proven to be very unreliable & the ZTR looked to be no exception.

Zack.,
I don't know what you are smoking, but I have used 21" snappers before and they preformed fine. I don't see how you could say they are unreliable, because I own a couple and I have never EVER had problems with the quality of the cut or parts breaking down. With proper maintenance these machines preform fine.“veni, vidi, vici.â€

Thanks for the info Zach. I do have to agree with CCLS about the 21" though. I have seen 21"ers that have been around FOREVER with no problems, and I think it's like a #1 seller, not positive though, but thanks for the reply on the ZTR anyway. I found a scag for 5500 52" 22hp and it's three years old with over 2000hrs on it and he bought it new for 8000 but i didn't think that was a very good deal.

In regards to Snapper 21" reliability I am going by what my dealer tells me he sees most in his shop.
His claims are backed up by a Consumers Reports brand repair histories survay which lists Snapper as the least reliable 21" self-propelled mowers based on more than 51 000 responses.
Also the one Snapper I owned was a lemon.

Oh I see (a/b the snapper). What should I offer the guy for the scag? I know it's a lot of hours but it's in perfect conditions, I thought it was almost new when I saw it, although I know looks don't mean much. So how much should I be willing to pay?
