  • 23 Hp Kawasaki twin won't start--Help!!!

Had been running very well then all of sudden it died. Was turning over well but didn't seem to be getting fuel. Took off the breather, saw no fuel going into the carb., put a little in there and she started right up until the gas ran out. Changed the filter, and add fuel to the line, but still not going to the carb. There is a round object attached to the gas line between the filter and the carb that also has a tube that runs to the engine, but I'm not sure what it's for. Can anyone help? Would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!!!

That would be the fuel pump, could be bad.Make sure you don't have a blockage in the tank.

        Fuel pump....

I would add to make sure the pipe running to the engine is sealing and not cracked or leaking....

It depends on small pulses of pressure waves as the piston rises up then down to move the diaphragm inside to constantly reverse direction so if its leaking the diaphragm wont be moving hence gas wont either....

Of coarse the pump may also be bad and the easiest way to find out would be to use an old gas tank from another mower (even if its somthing small like those easily removed from the little 3.5-6 hp Tecumseh engines) then attach the line to the test tank with gas in it and raise it up above the carburetor letting gravity provide the needed fuel to the carb by removing the line leading off the fuel pump and just attaching the homemade gas tank fuel delivery system to the carburetor....

Splash a little gas in the air intake to save the battery and see if it starts up and will continue to run....

If it doesn't then more then likely the needle valve in the carburetor is hung up and you could try tapping on the carburetor hoping to free it if it stuck up in the closed position or drop the bole and clean the float hinge pin so it moves freely and pull out the needle valve and make sure its cleaned of any varnish so it will maintain the proper fuel flow....

And if that's not the problem a last look would be at:

If you have a wire going to the carburetor that's now most always used as an anti dieseling solenoid on modern engines so fuel is completely shut off the moment the key is turned off it could possibly be that the solenoid itself is bad and its not opening up so that may need replacement....

Actually maybe the best thing to find out where the problem is quickest would be to just remove the fuel line at the carb then spin the engine over and see if gas is pumping out...

Be careful to not let the gas just blow everywhere by having a second person hold the line directly into an empty bucket or bottle especially if your checking inside a garage or enclosed area and be sure not to have any sparks or cigarettes around that could cause a fire...

If you logically troubleshoot each individual area of the fuel line and carburetor you should quickly be capable to find why the engine is not receiving fuel , fix and replace any worn ,leaking or clogged / defective part , and have it running as there is nothing serious or complicated on the engine and you should be capable to fix this yourself....

If you have any questions and find somthing your not sure about feel free to make a post and i will answer the question the best i possibly can not being there to fix this 5 minute job," hopefully" so you can get this fixed on your own , and NOT get hosed by any shady or stupid small engine repair shops that may take weeks to even look at this simple problem and just throw parts at it haphazardly charging you for things not needed until they change everything including the carburetor( costing you hundreds) +++ when it may be somthing as simple as a leaky hose somewhere...

        TANKY....

And good luck useing common sense troubleshooting ,

I'm back as mustang6605, couldn't get my old user name and password to work. Anyway, my mower is acting up again. Fuel is being pumped passed the fuel pump, but not getting into the carb. Please advise on how to check out the carb. I don't want to tear anything up.

            Thanks much!!!!
