  • Mower w/23hp Kawasaki FH680V twin won't start again!

I got some great advise on here before, so I'm back again. I'm getting fuel pumping past the fuel pump while turning over. It's just not getting in the carb. I can add a little gas to the carb and it will start right up, then shut down when the fuel is gone. What should I do next? I have not done anything with carbs before and I don't want to tear anything up. This is a Kawasaki FH680V.

I really appreciate all the help!!!!!!!

Clogged/gunked up carb is your problem. How hard does it look to remove the carb from the engine? Cleaning it is a pretty straight forward process, but you will most likely need some gaskets or orings since the stuff used to clean the crap out of the carb will eat orings and gaskets too.

Ron Howard: Is that... vodka... and wheat grass?
Homer: It's called a "lawnmower". I invented it. Want one?

Do you have a wire going to your carburetor???

If you have a anti dieseling solenoid hooked into the carb and a wire going to it possibly its not getting power to open the delivery system...

Not sure if you have that feature but i believe if it does not get 12 volts the solenoid stays closed causing the carb to act as fully plugged...

Otherwise its simple like 1chaves baby said....

Just remove said carb , remove bowl and whatever jets you can without stripping / ruining them and dunking all the stuff in real carburetor cleaner with a hanging basket and with a few gaskets and o-rings she should be as good as new...

Auto zone and such places carry 1-5 gallon pails and its well worth the money to get carbs like new clean....

If you get the real carb cleaner with a basket and dont like pulling jets out the stuff usually is strong enough solvency wise to just soak overnight with the float and needle valve removed and the solvent will still clean gooped up jets while still in the carb body...

An air compressor with a blow gun is also handy to blow out any passages after soaking overnight....

Definitely check the solenoid "if equipped" as i believe it totally cuts off fuel flow if it doesn't receive juice from the key which prevents run-on after shutting off a hot soaked engine....

Also before doing anything its worth mentioning you should make sure the carb is sealed tightly to the manifold and the manifold to the head with no gasket leaks plus be sure the choke is closing completely so its rich enough to start cold and continue running till its warmed up....

Don'T know if this is any help but:

Simple basic carb may or may not be helpful but (should) have very similar similarities to what you have in "basic operation"....

1..Float drops as fuel is used

2..allowing needle valve to drop allowing fuel to enter bole until the predetermined level is reached and the fuel flow temporarily stops until more fuel is used ,

3.. float drops again , fuel flows in , float goes up closing flow etc, etc and the cycle repeats as long as the jets are clear , float moves freely on hinge pin

4.. but everything must be clean and move / flow freely...

5.. somewhat like a toilet bole tank !!!:laughing:

      Ahhh ,,,one last note*

6..IMPORTANT !!!! Float must move freely on hinge pin or gas will not enter carb ,so it may simply be a stuck or goopy float or float hinge pin so make sure that is moving freely up and down....

      GOOD LUCK ...

      TANKY ...

GOD BLESS AMERICA (MY HOME SWEET HOME ) !!!!!

I had a similar problem with a kawasaki engine...wouldn't get gas unless I squirted some in the carb. Disconnected fuel line from fuel pump, pumped nicely. Found a solenoid shut-off valve screwed into the bottom of the bowl, solenoid wasn't working anymore. Took out little plunger (device that was shutting off the fuel) and screwed solenoid back in (to seal bottom of bowl)...tan great after that!
