  • eXmark Brake problem

Well, I'm just kinda bored right now so I thought I would share about my new eXmark. I bought a new 32" walk-behind yesterday and brought it home to try it out real good. Well, I went about 50 yds. and the right wheel would not turn. The brake was just locked up. It would not expand to let the wheel turn. Anyone else have this problem anytime, whether brand new or worn in? I did mention I was bored right?

Linkage problem, maybe an adjustment is necessary?

What it turns out to be was the manufacturer sprays this sticky substance on all the moving parts while shipping to keep them from moving around. When the dealer assembled it they did not get it all off so it was sticking. After I brought it in, their eXmark mechanic said that he had wiped it all off he knows. He also said that they had had 2 other machines exactly like mine that were brought back in for the same reason. The mechanic came up with this idea of putting some kind of washer on the lever that is supposed to drop down and release the brake and now it works just perfectly. He is a genius.

I say it is the linkage. Had the same problem when I bought mine.
Pull up on the wing nuts on top of the straight bars to see how much play is in it. Adjust the wing nuts in about 15 to 20 turns and play with it from there to get it like you like it.

When you release the handle to let off the brake the only thing that makes that rod go down and make the brake pad come off the wheel is gravity. So what it is is something sticking and keeping the rod from dropping down therefore not letting the brake to release. Make any sense whatsoever? Didn't think so...oh well!

Sounds kind of stupid but did you lube the machine real good on all of the fitttings. Mine had no lube what so ever when I received it. Just an option.

Yeah, that does sound kinda stupid, but I guess it could happen to someone. Yes, I greased every fitting and moving part that you should grease on a mower like this. Anyway, the mechanic fixed it whatever it was so I'm happy now. Thanks!
