  • New 2002 Cub Cadet Tank

I have a chance to pick up a new last years model (2002) Cub Cadet Tank. The deal said he will sell it for cost due to it being a last years model. It has a 54" deck and a 23hp Kawasaki engine.
It still has the original packing strap on the shute and hasn't been used at all. He says the cost would be $5900.00 plus tax. He aslo has a 60" Tank with a 25hp Kawasaki that has been used several times as a demo (2002 model) he is asking $6300.00 plus tax for. I can get a loan through Cub Cadet no interest till Jan 04 or in my case it would be same as cash.

    Do these prices seem good?

not bad on the 54", I have a 2001 M-60, 23 kaw, got it for 7000.00 0 hours, but the kicker was getting my new 2003 M-72 also for 7000.00, 28 hp generac. but back to the ?, I think there good prices on both, you'll be happy with the tanks.

      It's Mine!

Hey guys! Just wanted to let ya know that I bought that Turf Tracer today!

I went up to Greenfield IN today with my dad and looked at the Exmark w/b's listed in the auto trader. The demo turned out that it only had the ECS, but not the electric start and he had the $4300 tag on it. We really wanted an electric start, so he talked to his boss and he pulled out with a BRAND NEW turf tracer (17hp, 48", ECS) with electric start. He said he'd match the demo's price on the new one! We went to McDonald's and ate on it and came right back and bought it! We had to buy a velke though besides the sale price. We tried to get them to throw it in with the mower, but anyway they installed it and I think I got a good deal...don't you guys?

This being my first zero turning radius machine, it took a bit getting used to. I practiced mowing with it all afternoon and then when it rained I practiced in the driveway, and I think I've got it mastered now.

It does fit sideways on my trailer with the velke also. So no need for a longer trailer! I can't wait to mow with it tomorrow!

Thanks so much for all you guys' input!

The Cub Cadet dealer were I'm at has a tank (I think it's a 2002 model) that is used. It only has like 10 hours on it. They want 5300 for it. It's has a 54 deck on it. Real nice.

Overall opinion on the Tank mid-mounts?? Are they good? Are replacement parts expensive??

I've had my eye on the GrassHopper's but the Tank looks pretty nice.

There are several of us here that have the Tank series Cub Cadets. I really like mine. Has a real nice cut and some good features. I like the way all the controls are set up and they have a good warranty. Plus the dealer here has very good support (loaners, experienced maintenace, many parts on hand etc.)

I have the older model 54" Tank but I know prices have changed and was wondering what others had found on prices.

I am leaning toward the 54" only because I have optional equipment that I can put on it. I could set one up for vaccuming and side discharge and mount the mulching kit on the other.

Thanks Maddog. If I can swing it, I'll probably get the Tank. The only thing I didn't like was the way the deck raises. It seemed very difficult to raise. Maybe it needs greased or something. It would be nice if they had made it with a foot pedal controlled lift instead of the hand controlled. I've worked on autos for 20 years, I'll fabricate my own foot operated lift system. I have a mig welder, touches and a ton of air powered and hand tools. Everything I need to do ALL repairs, on or of site!!!

When I start pushing snow for my self, I'll have a generator and welder with me so if I break anything, I can weld it and go. Now if the tranny went out, I'd be SOL. haha

                  GH725,

The Tank should have the foot pedal assist for lifting the deck on it. It is on the same side as the lever for the lift. The pedal is on a pivot so that you can swing it out of the way to lift the deck to get to the pullies and grease fittings on the deck. Check and see. With the pedal it is not hard to lift the deck.

                    Thanks again MadDog.

I looked at it again. It turns out it was a 48" deck not the 54. The 48 doesn't come with the foot assist pedal. It can be bought seperately as an option though for the 48. The guy (older man) at the dealer seemed like he wasn't to interested in selling me anything. I asked if he could demo the USED one out side and he said he'd rather not, the deck was cleaned on it already. If the Tanks are good is kinda meaningless at this point. I want to see the mower cut before I spend 6G's. Is that to much to ask from a dealer?? The guy at the GH dealer pulled it up to the side of the building and said have at it!!! He let me drive it up onto a smaller hill that was on about a 30 degree angle. I brought it back down and went to get off, he said try cutting with it, help your self!!! It cut great and was very smooth. Point is, if the Cub dealer wasn't interested in my money enough to have to hose a deck off when done, then they don't get any of my money!!!!

                    Thanks for the help

For the record, I've been there 4 times asking tons of questions about the CCC ZTR's and on the 5th visit, I asked about test driving them and how the cut looks. That's when he seemed anal about wanting to even start it up. Oh well, I dout I'll do business with them. To bad, they're 4 miles from my house!!

I'm not ruling out ExMark. Their dealer is about 15 minutes from home. I talked to their salesman, got a bunch of info, and he said to come back when it wasn't raining and he'd be glad to let me test one out. They have a big lot on the property they let cutomers try out different equipment on. They also sell Scag and Kubota.

Sure don't sound like my dealer, will get parts for me even on a sunday if they have them in stock, all in all I like my tanks, I have a M-60 and a M-72, they cut as well as any out there. I have well over 400 hrs on the 60 and just got the 72, think I have 40 hrs on it.
But go with who has the best service, thats why I'm with cub.

I have to agree. The dealer here wouldn't sell me one until I tried it out. They will hold the shop open if they know I am coming in for a part. They even tolds me to take one for a day or so an try it out to see if I like it. This is on just about any equipment. If your dealer is not going to support you I would go and buy something else from another dealer that will work with you.

When I bought my tank he loaned me a trailer to take it home that day but not until after they washed it . I realy wasn't dirty other than a little dust.

I like realy like the Tanks but not enough to have to deal with a dealer like that.

                          WLS,

How do you like your M-72? They are new this year and I haven't seen one yet because they are selling like crazy. The dealer here said he could make me a good deal on the M-60 trade ins that are coming in on the M-72's.

What took a 1 1/4 hr before with 48" w/b and 60"er, now takes 1/2 hr with the 60 and 72"er. I love it, has great power, cuts actually better then the 60 as far as throwing the clippings out. good mower.
