So I'm finishing up this aeration/overseed job yesterday and finished loading up the aerator and extra supplies when I notice this big puddle of water coming from under my truck
Then I thought, 100k miles and this is the only thing I've had to change,, not bad, shoots production for the next few hours but I can deal with it. Seven hours later I finally got the new pump in and still can't separate the stinkin fan clutch and fan from the old impeller rod! I decide to call around and just get a new one. Nobody in town has one, next option, electric. Goof ball rednecks at AutoZone says a 16 inch fan will be more than enough, they don't have a clue as to how much air it moves but they ensure me that it'll be enough. Well I get there, decide to look on the back of the box and it says one 16in fan will move 1100cfm but then for my size engine it states that it requires two fans. The hillybilly at the counter then says, "ahh, that don't mean nuttin, you'll be ok. I see people put those on trucks all the time." "Oh yeah? Not today Hoss. C-YA!" So I had to take the wife's minivan to work that night and you should've heard the guys howlin' when I pulled up with momma's minivan with baby seat and a 'winnie the pooh' sunvisor on the side window. The harassment went on for hours. They're just a fine group of professionals with too much time on their hands.
Today I ended up going to a performance shop and got the Black Magic which moves something like 2800cfm and cost $170. I was getting ready to do the install when my neighor comes out from the back with my fan separated from the old pump. He says that he found this laying around in my driveway and did his magic and it only took him 30 mins to separate. I must have loosen it up for him.

Scott, You allways seemed like a smart guy. I can't believe you would even think of "riggin" up your truck like that

Scott, I've worked on cars for 20 years. They make a tool to remove the fan clutch from the pump. Little late now but... Also, there left hand thread on some.

Did you put the 'Winnie the Pooh' sunvisor back into your truck after you fixed it?

forgot to tell ya Dodge owners to break that bad boy loose once a year, or sell it before it reaches 100k

First-alarm - What's wrong with a performance fan? Frees up some pony's and will add 0.745mpg!!!AND it looks cool.

GH725 - yeah you're right and this one called for a 36mm special tool which was $80+ at the dealership and $65 at a local auto shop. On my last GMC, I had no problem changing that bad boy with standard tools. The discount stores didn't carry them and those gurus said just use a hammer and a chisel!!! This one was ccw to loosen cw to tighten, standard threads.

                  u peeked!

                  You had to of peeked!!!

well checks in the mail, coke in ummm, now in me belly and I'm a smilin'.

I know I'm way off subject now but when I was like 8-9, my parents used to crank up the old record player and blare their music through the combo tv, console, stereo. I bet ya phil still has one. You know, it was something like 6-8ft long, tv was in the middle, wood grained, speakers next to the tv covered in some crazy red material and wood ornaments. Access to the record player was from the top and you had to slide the door over, stereo and 8-track was on the other side and the clicker, it really clicked, was on the tv tray next to the imitation lazy boy recliner.

I still remember like it was yesterday, my stepfather strutin thoughout the house, wearing his white pants, white belt, white leather shoes, butterfly collared shirt and some crazy gold medallion hanging around his neck. I'd run upstairs bust out my Steve Austin action figure w/bionic eye and rocket car, then head out back or to my buds house and do a little destruction and pillaging through his sister's Barbie mansion. Oh man did she ever get mad.

These where the days just before when we just found out the original Rock and Jim Nabors where flamers! The muppets where on primetime, teens jumped in and out of their cars like the Duke boys and everybody went around saying, "Jo-ker, JO-Ker, JO-KER!!!"

It would looked "rigged". If an elec. fan would be really any better it would of come with one from the factory. Your not going to get much change in anything on a stock truck other than a wiring mess. Buy the way your not going to get a quality fan at autozone anyway.

                      First-alarm

                      Let me repost this
Today I ended up going to a performance shop and got the Black Magic which moves something like 2800cfm and cost $170.
If you'd slow down and read the post you'd see that I didn't go to AZ for the performance fan and the Black Magic fan has brackets which also allows it to fit inside the fan housing. You'd never know that it didn't come from the factory unless you put it in wrong.:p
AND who said my truck was stock?

First alert, you need to relax. Go check out the Englebert Humperdink webpage and sign his guestbook or something.

Scott dont feel bad. A weeks ago i thought id be nice on a rain day and let everyone stay and do equipment maintenance. I had them drain the anti freeze out of my truck and put in new. Just to see if i could get it to run a little cooler. It was fine though really. I just was giving out hours to be nice. Well the next day i parked at a $500,000.00 house and spued antifreeze on the drive. Needless to say i was embarrassed. Also i never use drives but for some reason i did that time. Go figure. well this continued for all week. Kept getting little puddle under truck. Than i started running hot. I checked my level and added a gal of water at a station. Than it ran hot again. So wed i replaced the thermostat. No change. Thurs night i discovered my pump had a blown diaphram. F--- !! It was 7pm. So i ran to my neighbor to see if he wanted the job. That was the first night i had been home before 9pm in 3 weeks so i wanted to spend time w/ the old lady and kids. I told him id give him $100. He said great he could use the money. Told him dont bug me just do it and pull it back over and put it in my drive when hes done. well at 11 he calls me says he cant seperate the clutch and hes putting it back together and giving it back. So i go look at it. I empathized w/ him and gave him $50 for the effort. I took it to a shop the next morning they said $130 they would do it w/ my new pump. I said great and told them give me 2 new rear tires. Bill came to $389 cause they replaced the belt to. So 389+50=439. Than i get to a site and see a guy looking at a $600 trimmer w/ a stupid look on his face. He didnt have the "on" switch positioned and pulled until he broke the pull string. So i ran down and got a $359 stihl. to temporarily replace it. Only prob is i have no idea how to fix it cause of that spring in there. So $439+359=798. $800 day is just what i was looking for.
