hey guys, i am thinking about buying a new trimmer, and i was looking at the echo straight shaft trimmers. So what i am wondering, is their engines are only like 21-23 CC, is this enough power to trim a lot of overgrown property with ? thank you for your time.

Yes it is but Echo makes more engine sizes than that. Go to their web site and preview all the diffrerent trimmers. The 21 and 23cc engines are just the ones Home Depot sell. When I first started out I used an echo srm 2100 and it lasted over 3 years and now sits in the shop as an extra. It was a good machine and still starts on the second pull although the carburator needs a good cleaning.

I use Stihl and Cub Cadet trimmers. The Cubs have 22cc's and work just fine in all the conditions so far. The Stihls have more power and work fine also. I have looked at Echo also and they have a larger engine size on some of there models.

I just did a house yesterday where the grasses and weeds were above knee high and both string trimmers did a great job.

              Echo Equipment

I have been using Echo equipment exclusively for about 15 years.
We currently use trimmers, blowers, and hege clippers by Echo. My advice: Buy the equivalent of the 260s or heavier for commercial use. I have 10 SRM-2601's but that has been replaced by the 260s.
              Good stuff.

I run 2 - 23cc Cub trimmers most of the time and have no problem. I also have 2 - 26cc Stihl trimmers and a 32cc that I use for the real heavy stuff but then I will put a heavier line on them also.

I use .095 string (twisted type or star) for the daily trimming and .095 metal reinforced and .105 for the heavier trimming.

If you are getting just one trimmer to use for normal and heavy string trimming and for edging I would opt fot the 26-35cc trimmer models.

Redmax BCZ2600S........ This thing revs so quick, and has so much power it'll about scare you. Plus it's EPA Phase 2 compliant, and runs a real long time on a tank of gas. Nothing like having a 25.4CC hemi in your hands!

Back in the day, I used to fly R/C aircraft. All the big boys ran Zenoah engines (Redmax=Komatsu/Zenoah) on their massively expensive planes. Some of those things were running 4 engines. They all swore by the Zenoahs as the most reliable.

Of course, just my 2 cents.

I'd have to agree on the Redmax. Adequate power. The head design is excellent. Every Redmax trimmer i've used has used the line down to the last 6 inches. The echos, i've been lucky to get through a whole spool without having to take it apart and unjam it. The Redmax is more expensive but you'll thank yourself in the end.
