  • New PB650

Just got in my new echo 650 today got it out of the box, fired it up. It ran perfectly for about a minute, and then took a dump on me. The speed got gradually slower. It will idle perfect but just won't take any throttle. I took off the gas filter, tried higher octane (89)gas, let it run with gas cap off to see if was a venting problem. Nothing helped. I think the carb is sealed with no adj. except for the idle. I bought it off Ebay and not shure how the warr. will work. Does anybody know of a quick fix or how to solve the problem thanks.

I have a similar problem with a string trimmer that I just bought from Echo. I bought several pieces of equipment from Echo this year because they are suppose to be dependable. I have had a problem with every piece. They may have changed how they are making them. I know that the string trimmer carb doen't have any adjustment because the dealer told me he would have to order a new one to mine (no adjustment). I'm not impressed at all with the new Echo equipment.

The quick fix would be to put it back on E-bay and re-sell it. Or try to send it back. I'm not being sarcastic, I just wouldn't keep something that gave me a problem right out of the box. It may just get worse.

For what it is worth, I run Stihls. br420's. They have plenty of power for all our commercial needs. I purchased the newer model Magnum, and it is just as nice, even though the tube is larger. We have quite a few of them. Never had one single problem at all. I can't even recall ever buying a new air filter for any of them in well over 5 years.

You're going to have to see if you can get your money back. I thought about buying an Echo online, then I thought better of it.

ALL of the newer equipment, that will meet EPA Phase 2 2005/CARB 2 requirements, will have unadjustable carburetors. Other than idle speed that is.

Not to rub salt into the wound, but you should go see IN PERSON a RedMax EB7001 at your local dealer. It weighs 5 pounds less than the Echo 650 or 750, and will blow either one of those away, pun fully intended. Ask the man who runs one. Mine starts first or second pull. Shindaiwa has a unit that is identical, same engine, etc., but has a smaller gas tank, and doesn't have the RedMax air filter setup. People who run either one of these blowers will tell you that they would NEVER use anything else.

This is why I bought from a local, stocking dealer. It helps me sleep better at night. Like The Grassmaster said, you WILL remember the level of service you get LONG AFTER you have forgotten how you saved a few bucks on the purchase price.

I wish you success in getting your money back. If you don't it's a hard lesson. Grassmaster has preached on this subject before, and it is wise to heed his advice, as he has been in both the purchaser's, and the seller's position.

Stihl has been using the identical engine on their top rated blower for over 7 years-from the BR400 to 420 to Magnum. Only minor cosmetic differences. Like Toro & the SFS deck the times they are 'a changin' & Stihl needs to do more than rebadge the identical blower year after year if they want to compete w/ the Echo & RedMax Big Boys.

I hear they have a whole new blower in the pipeline which is good news because the Stihl blowers have always been light & reliable.

I called the online store today and they won't take it back so I will have to sell it because I don't want a new blower that has been broken into. They will receive feedback they deserve. I have a dealer that can get me a redmax eb7001 for $375. Thanks for all the info. The redmax looks like it will be the better blower anyway.

                  Chupp:

Don't be ridiculous about this.....take the doggone thing to an Echo dealer and get the thing repaired. Bring your paperwork and if it is warrantable, ask him to perform the warranty service. If he squawks, contact Echo........dealers MUST perform the warranty work, no matter where purchased. If it isn't warrantable, fix it. It doesn't sound like a huge problem.....shouldn't cost you too much. Chalk it up to the folly of buying your professional equipment on the internet and learn from the experience.

By the way, the Red Max blowers are NOT more powerful (although they are nearly AS powerful) than your 650, and don't trust the literature weights......put them on a scale yourself to find the true difference.
I may be going to hell in a bucket, baby,

Wake Up Everybody! Warning Mile Long Rant!

                    Hello Unhappy Echo E-bay Customer:

Probably 50% of 2 Cycle Equipment will not run right out of the Box! You just need to Adjust the Carb, this is Very Common!

Don't get me wrong here, but Ain't you glad they can't sell Lawn Service on E-Bay! Please Never complain about Lowballers or Cheap Customers again.

The Reason they sell that stuff over the Internet is because they do not have to do the Equipment Assembly & Prep that a Dealer Does? Or Deal with the Actual Customer?

To be Honest with you that Dealer could Probably get into Trouble for Selling Echo in the Box & Online, it's in our Dealer Agreement that we Sign with Echo & the Echo Distributor that we can't sell in the Box, that We must Fully Assemble it, Service it out & Run it to make sure Everything is Working Properly, Before we hand it to the Customer!

That's Why We Make that Rip Off 24% Markup.

Dealer Cost on the Echo BP 650 is around: $403.00

Suggested Retail Cost on the Echo BP 650 is: $499.99

OK, Now How much Money did you save? You will not be able to Figure Everything Yet, because it's not Running Properly Yet, If you would have Bought Locally, it would have been handed to you Running Properly! A Fact!

Figure your time Looking on E-bay for it
                    Time Bidding on it
                    Time watching the Bidding Process
                    Time Completing the transaction
Time you are Held up waiting on it to get to you
Time you Spent Putting it Together
Time you've spent trying to figure out whats wrong with it
The frustration of it not running properly
Time Contacting them & being Treated unfairly
The Wear & Tear on you Mentally & Physically because of this
*Time posting the problems you are having
*Time Reading all of the above post
*Time Reading my Crying & Whining Post about Rip Off Dealers

All but The Last Three Problems with the Asterisk Marks, is the exact same Problems Dealers have trying to Gross 96.99 Plus More Below & Your Local Dealer would have Probably Knocked off $10 or $20 anyway, Did You have to Pay Shipping?

Now you still got to Adjust that Carb so Figure that Time
You Might Have to Carry it Somewhere to get it Adjusted
You Might Have to Pay for this Service which the Dealer would have taken care of Servicing it Out!

Now did you get the Actually Copy of Warranty Papers Filled out on the Unit & Did the E-Bay Dealer Send in his Copy of Warranty Registration To Echo Distributor & Echo INC?

Now after all of this figure your Time & Tell Me how Much Money did You Save? Probably Lost money on it, even if you bought it for $300. Think about it?

Do the Folks where the E-bay Owners are at, do they Help You like Your Dealer Would, Do You Cut Grass in that Area? Is there a Chance they will Help You out of a Bind? Turn you on to Jobs & Bids?

Will the Company Like PayPal or The Charge Card Company that handled the transaction do as Mentioned Above?

Will that Online Dealer do also as Mentioned Above?

Now I will make this Short, Do you have Any Idea How Much Trouble the Dealer Goes through just to Become a Echo Dealer, What About Yellow Page Ad, Yearly Update Schools sometimes a 100 miles away, Building Purchase Price or Lease Monthly Price, Employee Cost, Workers Comp, Taxes, Payroll, Property Taxes & the List Can Go on & On & on...

Guess what, the Dealer Like My Self was Told this Past Year for me to get that Unit at $403 & Be Able to Sell it for $499.99, That I Must Have Excellent Credit and...

If I want to Make those Ungodly Profit Margins as a Dealer, That I must Purchase at least 60 Units at that Dealer Level to sell at that Price, Pay it off in 90 days or pay 1 1/2% on Unpaid Balance.

That I must Also Purchase at Least $1,500 in Accessories & another $2,000 in Parts if I want the Above order, it doesn't matter if I ever sell any of it or not in the Next 3 Years but If I want to Play Echo Equipment Dealer Shop Survivor, I must & then it repeats again the Next Year, the Next Year & Bla Bla Bla.

Now if you want to feel like the Dealer, After you get the Blower Fixed, Buy about $20 bucks in Parts & Accessories, but don't use them at all or maybe wait a year or 2 or 3, Take it & Gross about $625 Max with it & Then Throw it in the Dumpster & Start the Whole Process all over again, Then You will know what it's like being a Dealer & making 25% Profit Margins...

This is what I deal with Everyday, It's Sad but True. I've Helped 1 Guy get his First $1,000 a Month Contract, I figured the Bid, Wrote the Contract & Walked him Through the Whole Process, did the same thing on a $100,000 a Year Contract & Later He wanted me to come off $20 each on 2 Honda HRC216HXA's I wouldn't do it because I think I had Done Enough already& He Drove over 90 Miles one way to save that $40 & then I did warranty work on them Showing I was a Good Sport & then Dropped me, because I would not do a $15 Pull Rope Repair under warranty on a Blower he Bought Somewhere else for the Same Exact Price that I was Selling them for.

This is Why a Lot Of Dealers act Like Jerks, This is Why I Cry & Whine when I hear about this Stuff.

Thank You if you read my mile Longer this far, My Shrink would have charged me about $200 to listen to that & then Tell me Well Mr. 5-ash Shinola Happens, Do you want to come in at 3:PM next Thursday, We went 2 minutes over & I have another OPE Dealer waiting on me Now!

I feel Your Pain, Just in a Different way, Just get Your Carb Adjusted & Remember, If You Make the Money Locally, Please Try to Spend it Locally because if you don't...

In another year or 2 they will be selling Lawn Service on E-bay T00!

POP off the High Speed Carb Adjuster, it should have a (H) next to it & probably only a 1/4 turn one way or another will fix it! Sometimes you might need to readjust the (L) Low Speed Jet Too. Be careful, if you have any Doubts, take it to a Repair Shop, Support Your Local Dealer & Keep your Money Local, where it Comes From! I Hope it all works out for you!

If you still have problems, Contact Me & I will be Glad to Help you get this Taken care of. Semper Fi!

PS: How much Money do you think I could make If I sold Honda, Snapper & Echo here on this Forum, None because I ain't Interested in Putting Myself or You Thorough what both of us are going through now! Monetary gain is not Everything & Never will be?

PPS: LOL, Remind me to go on a Rant about Charge Card Fees, Last month I paid over $585 to Process them, that's a Payment on a Cadillac STS?

Just wanted to let you know about blower. Took off carb to adj. and found the gasket between carb and enging dropped halfway down during assembly, blocking half the air and gas. Installed it correctly and it runs perfect. Funny how something that small can be aggravating as he11. Thanks grassmaster for the mile longer, I think it is definately worth building a relationship with a good dealer.
