  • Synthetic Oil

After getting tired of cleaning carbon out of my two strokes, I decided to go with Synthetic oil. I selected Amsoil Sabre 100:1 mix and I've got to say that all of my stuff is already running better. The exhaust smell is also not as strong as the regularmix.

The engines also seem to be running cooler and the best part is the mix fits all my different machines.

I'm sure it's good stuff, but myself, I use Opti-2. I like the additive package better. I run it at 100:1 in everything, no smoke, no carbon on the spark arrestor screens.

You still have the spark arrestors in? That's the first thing we take off for preventative maintenance.

Opti is causing failures in the new emission standard 2 strokes that manufacturers will not warrenty. Echo's new oil "Power Blend" is a synthetic miX that is designed specifically for the hotter running emission 2 strokes.

Jack, that's pretty much what my dealer told me when I expressed an interest in switching to Opti-2.

            He said:

"The new emission standards are not a good fit with Opti-2, use Echo's Power Blend".

Echo also has a promotion on the Power Blend until end of June...Buy 1 case of 48 & get 1 case free. That is a significant deal.....Stock Up!

Jack D. never states his sources, so I will take this comment with a grain of salt, even though it may be true. Keep in mind as well that, even if this IS the case, there is no telling WHY this is happening. Are the operators continuing to mix at a 50:1 ratio rather than 100:1??

I will also state, here and for the record, that this is why I do NOT buy inferior equipment. I own, and recommend, RedMax 2 stroke equipment, which, using the Strato-Charged engine, exceeds EPA and California Air Research Board emissions rulings without resorting to tomfoolery. Hanging a catalytic converter equipped muffler on a 2 stroke is pure tomfoolery. The catalysts will be poisoned from the 2 stroke oil in a matter of hours. The manufacturers put these things on to pass emissions testing ( which only takes a few hours of run time), not to truly clean up emissions in the real world.

There will be issues with converter failure, excessive exhaust temperatures, and the like from these poorly designed models. In the mean time, these manufacturers are basically attempting to put a band-aid on their units. Their solution to the problem is actually doomed to create MORE problems.

My RedMax Strato-Charged equipment uses 30% LESS fuel, and has hydrocarbon and nitrous oxides emissions that are 66% LOWER than conventional 2 stroke equipment, and I don't have to endure a heavier, hotter running unit. Not to mention it is the most powerful equipment I have found (engine size for engine size).

It is indeed sad to see that some VERY reputable manufacturers are not following the RedMax lead. After all, the concepts and ideas for the Strato-Charged 2 stroke have been around for more than 90 years. Unfortunately, most manufacturers are looking for a quick fix, and are focusing their real efforts on small 4 stroke engines. Stihl seems to have the lead in that arena, with their 4-Mix.

                P&C Lawncare:

No need to remove the spark arrestor screens when running Opti-2 oil. Mine are still shiney stainless steel, and look brand new. It would be a waste of time to even bother taking them out. But, like everything else, to each his own.

                  Opti-2 reply

                  Gentlemen,

Today at 2:00pm est. I called Interlube Corp. the makers/sellers of Opti-2 and spoke with Mr. Brad Clark of their technical staff. I ask him about any problems with the newer hotter running equipment if Opti-2 is used. He stated he knew of NO problems and that if Opti-2 is used as recomended on a regular basis at the proper mix that even if the maker of the equipment would not stand up for their product Opti-2 would. We continued to talk about different brand names and catalytic equipment used in the industry.
Brad stated that if anyone on this board had a question about interlube's products or warranty to please call him @ 800-332-5851.

Grassmaster, I invited Brad and the Interlube team to join us on this forum as a sponser and advertiser by contacting you. It would be nice to have more of the people who make the products to come foward and give us the REAL story when something like this "pops" up

I called Interlube a couple months ago to find out where I could get it locally and also spoke to Brad. Seemed like a very nice guy. Really talked my ear off, but in a good way - answered questions I hadn't even thought of asking.

                        Jack,

Name some failures, names of equipment, people this has happened to, and give us some phone numbers of makers and shops so WE can call and check this out! As all of us have very good and expensive equipment running out there every day. This forum is help and sharing forum so list them. I for one will pass this on to the Interlube people to work out!

                          Gentlemen:

Realize that Mr. Jack D. is nothing more than a half-assed parrot, who merely spouts off here what he has read on other forums. He is, on this subject for certain, so lacking in technical knowledge that he can be considered, for all practical purposes, a mental retard. For some reason, it seems he is also blind, or maybe just a dumbazz, and MISSED the point about, no matter WHAT the equipment manufacturer honors as far as warranty, Interlube WILL give you a warranty of their own. Your equipment fails because of an issue with lubrication, and you can be sure they will REPLACE your equipment.

Once again it seems as if Mr. Jack D. has chosen a quality product to bash and malign, for no other reason than to attempt to elevate himself. He provides not ONE SHRED of evidence to back his outlandish claims, which is certainly par for the course. Mr. Jack D., might I remind you that, even the highest turd in the cesspool, is yet but a turd.

As far as your technical knowledge in things mechanical, Mr. D., you are sorely lacking. I doubt you have ever even seen a RedMax trimmer in person, let alone use one. And I am willing to bet that, not only do you not understand the Strato-Charged RedMax engines, that you couldn't even begin to explain them or their virtues. Go back to handing off you half-assed advice, and leave the technical issues to be debated among those who have at least 3 brain cells.
