  • Best services for startup landscaping

Services like mulching and rocking beds, lawn revovation, lawn care programs are in the bag. What else should I start with? I need to learn more services.

I would like to learn about installing annuals and shrubs.

Your right, it's take time for me to get into landscaping. I would like to work on landscaping services only personally, and delegate the mowing to another person. Jimmy wants to be take charge next year so I'll be anxious to get it to work.

What is the most common need in a medium sized metro like Kansas City (1.8 million people and 10k new homes each of last two years). The newer suburbs are blazing with affluent people and families. But I have worked in an older suburb that median house range is 100k. These residents spend on maintenance and little else so I don't have much experience with affluents or their services or marketing. Any one been there?....

As usual I will disagree with you. There are many stand alone landscape businesses a start up can get into. In fact if you really put some good marketing together you can get other landscapers to sub work to you. They even sell it for you.

          Landscape Lighting
          Paver's
          Curbs
          Ponds
          Water Falls
          aquatic plants
          Stone work

These are just a few areas that one could specialize in. Sure big landscapers will do all of these things in house, However many won't. The smart ones will use you as a sub contractor if you are good, one less head ache for them.

An other advantage of specialization is the learning curve. Only one area to learn.

Good point about specialization. I was thinking about planting flower beds to start. I would like to learn more about lighting. Good point about sub work too. Lighting would be my prefered choice to hardscapes. Planting is interesting too because planted beds add nice benefits to a homeowner.
