When setting forms for additions to existing concrete or walkway/pathways, I use a standard level attached to 2" x 4's" which sets a consistant form and mimicks the existing fixed point from which to begin your measurments.
You are now easily and proficiently setting your forms to a constant reference point. If you need to skew the angle, use a small wood wedge on the desired side. You can stake and line the boundry if you need a visual to dig within.
