  • Question on laying mulch....

I have a customer that bought his own mulch and want's me to lay it. I've never had a customer buy there own mulch so I guess my question is, what is the best way to charge? It will probably be me and one other person about 60 bags and planting 4 plants. Thanks in advance for the advice.

your hourly rate times the number of men. $40/hr x 2 men = $80/hr
if it takes 2 hours, $160.00...etc. let them know in advance if the 60 bags don't cover that it is there problem , not yours.

To do sod right, you should use a sod cutter to remove the old sod first and haul it off. (BTW a lot of work) 7700 sq ft is a full 18 wheel truck load of 20 pallets this time of year and in the wet season only 16 pallet because of gross vehicle weight of 80,000 pounds. Going price for sod in the field is around $0.15 a sq Ft. Delivery charge is normally around $ 200.00 a truck load, if you are hooked up with a good trucker. You must have a fork lift to unload the sod and spot it in. I charge $ 150 an hour for my fork lift and travel time is included. You can rent a forklift but be careful because you can flip them if you are not experienced.

Sod is not only hard work but takes experience to lay correctly. Going price for this in my area of Florida is between $ 0.75 and a $ 1.00 a sq ft. A job this big would go at $ 0.75 because of the size unless there is a lot cut in work.
