Hey Everyone,
I'm doing a large sod job soon and I wanted to make sure I'm not leaving any steps out of the process. I decided to go with a tiller and sodcutter rather than a skid-steer because of the layout of the lawn and because no one around me rents the harley/power-rake attachment for dingos or skid-steers, only buckets, backhoes, drills, etc . I heard a tiller is better than a w/b power-rake for really tearing deep into the soil when I grade it (soil is very hard).
1.) Apply Roundup one or two weeks early to kill the lawn
2.) Remove lawn with sodcutter
3.) Grade Dirt with Tiller
4.) Spread fertilizer (what kind should I use?) and lyme (how much lyme should I use, is this necessary?)
5.) Rake Dirt Even w/ Iron Rakes
6.) Soak lawn for 30-40 minutes
7.) Lay Sod
8.) I'm going to give my customer very detailed watering instructions and emphasize how important this is to the process.
This is going to have to be a two day-job, so I'm wondering where I can split up the steps. Can I till, rake, apply fert, then soak the next morning and lay?
Thanks guys.
Pat
