  • Certified Landscape Professional

Do any of you own this credential? And if its worth what it seems? I plan to study for it and want to get any advice... actually it will be Landscape Technician first, then professional once the business is stable.

I hold something like this issued by the Florida Nursery Growers Association. At present time it is not recognized by the State of Florida as any kind of license. However I did recieve a letter from the Dept of Agriculture a couple of years ago saying they were thinking of recognizing it in some way.

Now my advice to you would be to go for it. I don't think it will be as valuable tool for getting business as the education that goes with it would be. Certification can be nice, I have my share that have been helpful. But it is the Knowledge that goes with these Certifications that really gets you ahead. You can never have too much knowledge unless you don't have common sense.

In michigan we have a MIchigan Certified Nurseymans program. I though plan on going for the CLP. It is known national and if I have a MCN it is only good in Michigan. The more you know the more professional you will be

          Thanks guys!

I have actually seen some trucks with this logo on the end of their truck and it looks great! First impressions are that they have their business straight. And that only means more of a professional image like you guys said.

Almost any credential (accomplishment) reassures the customer that you have and are qualified to perform the work. Heck, even having a driving license says that you've passed a driving test ...

BBB doesn't mean jack to me... or most consumers... their rep has gone down the toilet.

Do you have to follow guidelines to be part of the BBB? or anything else?

the BBB sends companies a letter after a complaint by a consumer. If the company pays them monthly or yearly fees to be a member then they take "the companies" word on the situation. If your not a paid member then they put the complaint on a record and give you an unsatifactory rating. Its kind of like paying to keep a clean record. Many consumers think its a government agency, but its not.
