  • Flagstone Questions...Please help!

I am trying to bid my first flagstone job. It consists of 444 sq ft of walkways and patio area. I am adding to existing an existing patio which was laid with a crushed granite base, stone edge, and mortared joints. I have a few questions:

    1) I live in the Houston area, what is the going rate for a flagstone patio described above?

    2) Will the walkway hold up on a compacted granite base, 4”x6” rock sides and mortared joints? Is their another base material that would be recommended (cost and/or structurally)

I would appreciate any help or suggestions. Thanks, Ryan

    as described in other posts

Mortared joints on a base thats not a concrete pad leads to future failure of the project.

Joints can match the base...stone dust joints with a stone dust base.
Mortar joints with a concrete base.

    My price in VA averages

$24 sq ft installed in dust
$29 sq ft on concrete and mortared

Normal problems like location, debris, additional excavation are all extra charges.
