  • Pinestraw on a 75 degree slop

A guy calls me and wants his whole front yard (75 degree slope) sprayed, lay weed fabric, and pine straw mulch. Any have experience with this, wouldn't the straw just wash away? Anything you can use to hold it in place?
    Thanks guys.

i would think the straw would wash off then he'd want you to come back and fix it for free.
i had a job like that with mulch, lady wanted the same thing, we did it, it washed, she blamed me. i'll never take another job like that.

I meant "slope" not "slop". Been a very long day of work. Business is growing faster than I can. This area already has straw on it, its just bare and faded. He wants it done, and its actually his only option. I'm just trying to figure out how to do it best. I see straw on steep slopes all the time, its nice and flat too.

Is the slope of his front yard actually steeper than this " / " and he wants it mulched,or am I misunderstanding you? That is between a 60 and a 65 degree slope and 75 would be steeper. Surely you are measuring from verticle and not horizontal.

It is about the same slope as " / " some parts aren't as steep but about 80% of it is. Any suggestions?

I would suggest not using weed fabric because it will make the pinestraw slide down the hill faster. If there is already straw there then the old stuff will help catch and hod the new.

My apologies. How about staking straw waddles (burlap tubes stuffed with rice straw) along the slope? I've only seen them used on a television show to prevent erosion around a lake that had the shores restored. I have no experience with them, but am curious about them. They absorb, slow, and divert water runoff, but maybe they will hold the pinestraw in place better too.

where do you find burlap w/ rice straw?
I don't think the weed fabric would work with the straw on that slope. I'm going to tell him about that.

Here is one link that will explain them. I haven't found a source yet. Search Straw Rolls or Wattles possibly. I was searching waddles and got some hits.

I am not epxerienced in much work on slopes so it is just a suggestion you will have to research. I am not sure if it is applicable to your situation.

I've seen those before on erosion control areas. I'm not sure if that would be the thing for a residential place. I have to dig a trench, etc. I've already told the guy it would be over 1k and he says give him a more detailed figure. So thats what I'm looking for. What about a biodegradable fishnet or something. I've seen that stuff on some lawns around my customers.
                    ?
                    thanks for the help hardboiled
