I been in the landscaping business approx 15 years .. I have never came across this situation.. I just recently went to bid a job. I went around the property with the customer & he explained what he wanted done.. So I figured out a price for him.. I told him that i get 1/2 of the total cost upfront before the job is started. He agrees to the price of the job to be performed.. I get a phone call from this customer saying that he wants to cancel or be put on hold .. Now what im asking since i get a deposit upfront If this customer cancels do you people usually refund that deposit....?? or just hold on to it untill they want the work done if there just on hold...????

Depends i would think. Never happened to me yet but if i purchased material he would have a hard time getting any deposits until i sold the crap.
I suppose theres laws however that protect him and let him twist the knife.
If theres no harm no foul,,,,, than just issue him a check and be done with it. I wouldnt even bring it up to him,,, he'd just get his deposit in the mail.SENIOR MODERATOR LSF COMMUNITY CONTROL CORDINATOR

Tough call, you will likely have to refund that money because in many states it's not legal to ask for more than 10% down on a job.
They can give more, but I don't think you can actually make them pay more than 10% up front.a.k.a.---> Erich
