Barberry Removal

Any tips on removing 6' high barberry bushes in 80degree weather without getting pricked like a crazy one? I've tried just cutting off at the base with a chainsaw, doesn't work. Tried hedging off as much as I could, then lopping as much as I could, then chainsaw. That doesnt work..

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Tie a chain, or big rope pull it out with your pops truck.

They're a foot away from the house or that would have been my first choice.. Can't get the truck back there. 6' Stockade fence with 48" gates.[xx(]

Go rent the cheapest stump grinder you can get. Not the self propelled ones. You can get smaller ones that run about $45 a day. If you can't get a truck near them, and can't use a pick ax, find a large tree close by. A large nylon strap WRAPPED with a towel and placed around a tree will make a great anchor for a hand winch.

Barberries don't have much of a root system. After you cut them down, a pick should take them out easily also.

do you have a pole saw? gas powered one would be choice but manual would work. It should give you a bit of a distance so you're not getting stabbed. To get the stump out a smaller stump grinder like Scaper-S2k mentioned would finish up the job nicely. If not, try some root-rot, it'll be gone in about a three months.

I have a come-a-long and a 75' ratchet tie down.. I'm going to try those tomorrow and see how it works.. Possibly renting a stump grinder if my system doesnt work.. I'm tired of digging out stumps[:0]

Finally just used the chainsaw and cut um off at the base and drilled some holes in the stump and dumped some X-tra strength round up in the holes..
