  • Backpack blower electicution?

I was blowing off a driveway a while back that had an electric fence and everytime I lifted up my foot, in an area near the fence, I could feel a little shock on the bottom of my foot and shoe. I guess the spinning wheel that creates the wind sucks up the electricity? Has anyone ever experienced or heard anything like this before?

Also it seems a long time ago I heard about somebody falling in a pool with and was electocuted to death while blowing off the patio around the pool.

I can't remember if I actually heard this or not, but I remember one landscape crew guy was somehow electricuted when he fell in a pool, or even if it is possible for a gas powered back blower to create electricity in the water.

I am concerned because I have a new client with a pool, and there are some tight areas around the pool, where I sometimes blow off the patio.

I dont think that the schock could kill you. I've been shocked by a plug wire a few times and its not more than a little suprise. I think if you fell in a pool the blower would shut down almost imediatley and probably most of the electricity would disperse in the pool. Maybe some one should test it.

Maybe static electricity. Plug wires can sometimes create a shock.

Come on guys, you need to LOOK before you strike!

Anyone could have seen the line on that one! It must have been 500 lb. test, and it looked like 1/4 inch nylon rope to me!

Oh com'on Woody...didn't you know the 'spinning wheel' inside the blower can 'suck in' electricity? I guess not.

Upon reading this thread I'm tempted to fabricate a HUGE blower to rig atop my shop which will be used to steal electricity from the neighbors.

Reminds me of the story about the guy who went fishing but didn't have any bait. He rips a picture out of a magazine of some shrimp and hooks that. Very first cast out he get a killer bite....

This past Friday (Oct 6 '06) I had a worker fall into a pool with the blower running. Only things that happened is we all fell on the ground laughing our A$$ off...after we helped him out of the pool. The backpack floated and started right up on the first pull and still does.....
