What advertising brings you in the most business? In other words, if you could only use one what would it be? Newspaper, phonebook, flyers, etc?

If only one method it would be "telephone" and aside from all the negative thoughts about telemarketing it works because unlike other forms ... it allows two way communication. You'll know immediately if you have a sales lead or not.

So Phil, would you be just calling people up randomly or do you already have a lead that these people are looking for someone who does landscaping?

I would also say a phone book ad would be my choice. The reasons being are that the phone book is distributed to almost everyone free of charge. It is a refrence book that people will hold on to for several years. Even your ad from 3 or 4 years ago can still draw potential business.

If by telephone I would purchase a list like those at www.infousa.com for residential ... for commercial calling I'd use the local Yellow Pages and call by business category such as motels ... restaurants ... real estate mgmt ... hospitals ... etc.

Response rates are not that important as a percentage of total calls. Land just one residential account, keep the customer for several years ... same with commercial ... maybe you make 100 calls but if you land a $25,000 a year contract from that? []

I dont know. I hate telemarketers. I cant see bothering potential customers as being a plus for my business. Sure the couple that you might get can have its worth, but what about the others that say no thanx and arent too happy that you called their house? That in it self could have a bad effect on your company. Right?

As bad as telemarketing may seem ... TruGreen built a huge business using telemarketing.

If I had to choose just one form of advertising, it would deffinately be the yellow pages. Because let's face it, word of mouth advertising is free.

My first choice is the lettering on my truck.

My second choice would be the phone book.
