Patio we built at my buddy's house. Wasn't really built the proper way....he bought this house last fall and wants to put a few improvements into it before he sells it in 5 or so years.

Looks real good, but have once question.

What will happen when that pressure treated lumber bigins to shrink up and rot away from the patio? Not knocking your work, just wondering if you thought of that.

Yeah....did I not say it wasn't built the right way?

The pavers are in there very tight....so they shouldn't move too much from the timbers shrinking. He bought all the materials without much input from me. If I had it my way, I woulda installed a concrete modular retaining wall in place of the timbers.......but oh well.

I spose the point of this project is to look good for 5-10 years.....who cares thereafter.

I hear you. I do like the look of the pavers against the wood grain, I would clear the wood to hold that fresh lumber look as long as you can.

        Looks good though.

The PT lumber will last longer than the concrete.....

Im not saying that the wood would not last. I was just saying that over time the wood would die up and shrink down. If he plans on saling in five years or so, then it will be someones elses problem.

I think it looks pretty good. I'm not a huge fan of the colors, but other than that.....

Yeah what about it? I imagine your talking about the wood form boards.

NO, he's talking about the concrete being broken and spalled. It snows where he is at. With the miniscule amount of concrete to do the same edge restraint treatment, he'd have to have a SIGNIFICANT footer, including re-bar, and appropriate forming and pourning of said concrete edge restraint, that it would be highly cost prohibitive to perform such tasks.

EVEN then. It snows up yonder, and concrete don't handle frost heave so well. In any thickness with every precaution and well intentioned plan.

So, how long have you been forming and pouring concrete?

Sorry, but I have to ask about the steps? Why so plain, he could have done something to make them look better than two stringers and steps.

Looks good, but I find pressure treated wood can be slicker than snot on a doorknob when it gets wet. I agree about clearing it, and add some Tread Tex to the sealer. Who ya gonna sue if you slip on your own patio and spill your noodles?

I like the pattern it's laid out in.

                              Money?

They came with the house.....I dunno, I guess he thinks they look fine? IMO they are cheesy and clash with the patio.

I'm preparing an quote for another patio, this one should be much more attractive. Perhaps I'll land the gig and post some more patio photos.
