took a tree down this afternoon. 30' dead pine. I have slightly under 2.5 hours on this job (including getting to the house, roping it to drop it where I want, cutting it up, dumping it, and being done for the day). I cut it 4 feet from the ground as we are going to go back another time and pull the stump out (the owner claims they are still burlapped up and will come right out. I dunno, didn't try, that's why I left it high enough for leverage). Anyway, for any of you that do this, what would your price be roughly w/out seeing it. O, and I did measure it when down and it is 30' (I'm learning stevo!)

i hope your ins. covers you on this type of work as a dead tree is very dangerous work. my ins. only covers for small stuff. 30' wouldn't qualify. just be carefull. also make sure you get miss utility to mark any underground hazards that might exist for when you pull this thing out. cover all your bases.

yea my insurance doesn't cover this, so it is risky. As for underground utilities, didn't think about that much, but where its located I can't see anything running there, although lately I've seen stuff laid by companies in completely wacky areas.

I just took 2 -- 20 footers down at one of my commercial accounts. I charged them $410.00 to drop the trees, remove the stumps, clean up and haul to the dump. Additonally they want 2 replacement shrubs planted and the beds need to be remulched due to the stump removal. This added another $247.00 to the job.

I would charge $200-$250 in my area.

You sure are a gambling man!

Around here, if you're not a certified arborist, the city will fine your butt if they see you d1cking around with trees. Meanwhile, to even get liability insurance that covers tree work, you have to be a certified arborist....

I cannot tell you how much tree work I've turned done this year alone. I ain't getting into that chit, regardless of how much money you can make.

ha I take whatever pays $$$. We had a bad storm back in July I think it was. One of my commercials called, 'a tree fell on the building, do you do tree work?' 'I sure do $$$'. Climbed on the roof of the building, hung over the edge and cut enough off to drop it to the ground. A little over 3 hours later, I had $350 sitting in my pocket, not counting the other trees we were cutting up during the day.

Buddy of mine last year had to take a tree down. Rented a lift and up in the air 60' we went. Him and I are the same, we can't turn work down. Now within reason of course, I don't build patios and such or do irrigation or mess w/ chems cuz I don't know anything about that. Cutting up dead trees, I'll take the risk, besides, whats a missing leg right?

I have (er had) pairs of jeans with chainsaw cuts in them. Be careful. I'm serious.

If you're gonna remain in this tree work gig, I'd recommend you invest in a pair of chainsaw leg chaps.

ha yea I was joking about that. I'm more careful w/ maybe the less than 10 times a year I do chainsaw work than when mowing near high end cars, kids, and pools everyday lol. I'd love to do more tree work, that sh$t is fun, but I'm not looking to plop the dough on a bucket truck and chipper at this time.

                    Check 'em out......

I've watched as these guys have grown from nothing into something. They cut and remove trees the 'new' way. All the old tree farts around here still climb up into the trees and drop small limbs.

We are your choice for 20+ years of certified, licensed & insured professionals who passionately enjoy tree maintenance, removals & more. Call us today!

nice. Sweet gig. We have a bunch around here like that. Big bucket trucks and all. Not many that I see climbing around here. There's a place nearby that sells big used bucket trucks and dumps for good prices, so these guys can pick them up. I'll have to find a local article from a previous storm this summer. Pure carnage, tree companies every where. If I remember correctly, one tree's STUMP weighed 20 tons! They brought in a huge 16 wheeler crane to lift it.
