  • landscaping circular bed

    customer has a circular bed with 40' linear circumference and 5' radius. They have a ligustrum tree in the center and want some landscaping done around the tree. How many 3 gallon plants do you think I would need to adequately fill the space? (78 ft2)

    a circular bed with only 5ft rad and a tree already in the middle will only hold about;
    5-6 Indian hawthorns,
    6-7 Ixora
    6 schillings
    about 9 firepower nandina

            Everybody has their own opinion on design and that looks fine. I wouldn't have done it like that with that very round lug though.

            Does that garden continue around to the right?

              that was just a pic I found while searching for ideas, I thought it looked to be the same size as the bed Im doing. The bed I will be doing is in between the road and a circular drive.

                is your tree round like this one or mushroom shaped?

                If it's mushroom shaped, I'd plant something like white African iris between the shrubs and tree, or nothing at all.

                    I think its overcrowded. The azealas do not look mature. It also looks like a ***** to maitenance. On the otherhand if your in the business of selling plants I see $$Cha-Ching$$ for a small planting job.

                      To fill a 78 sqft area with plants 2 feet on center you need 78/4 =19.5 plants
                      To fill a 78 sqft area with plants 3 feet on center you need 78/9 =8.67 plants
                      Take a few out for the center piece.
