$12 per sq ft w/ any clay that runs $2 or less per sq ft your cost. Over $2 per sq your cost pass it on. I adjust this sometimes on larger jobs like say 300 sq ft up and sometimes ill increase my sq ft cost if its under 100 sq ft. This is my rates and it includes all equipment and materials. I watch my bottom line on walkways because theyre usually all hand dig and my labor rate will be high on them. Good luck.

I cant imagine giving a simple sq. ft quote to someone. Inevitably there will be times when obstacles get in the way of profitability when a "standard" is used to give a quote.

I can understand having a standard to go by, but then additional costs that can only be calculated by an onsite evaluation must be figured in accordingly.

Just my 2 cents worth but I use to price paving split into two groups .... first any site work needed which can vary a lot like the others said and then a separate price for installing, materials labor, OH and profit.

Mostly people are installing interlocking concrete pavers around here. I see clay bricks at the suppliers but never see them being loaded or installed. The cheapest concrete pavers are around $1.75\sq. ft. and many of the cooler ones can be a dollar or more over that. So with base, edging, pavers, sand, disposal of spoils, direct costs can esily be 3-4.00\sq.ft. I see a lot of people putting them in for 6-7.00\sq. ft. & I can't imagine how they're making money, and many customers think that's the going rate after seeing quotes like that. However I have noticed that ones that I know were installed at those prices were also ones where I or others were called to repair them because the original contractors wouldn't come back to re set them after they sunk or fell apart. So I think I may have figured out how they made some money Cheapest one I put in measured out to $12.50\sq. ft. and the most expensive one was over $20.00\sq. ft. So as mentioned, price will vary greatly from job to job due to site conditions and what you install. Make sure you cover your expenses & make some money.

We price all our site prep work seperate, and charge depending on what block the homeowner chooses, usually around 15 to 18 per sq ft, that's for material and install of block.

Seems to go over well here, i've seen some co's charging 25 sq ft.
