  • Posion Ivy!!

Damn do I HATE that stuff. I had a sweatshirt on and STILL managed to get it all over my arms. Oh well, when it was all said and done, the check that was sittin' in my hands made it feel all so better. CYAS

Yup, it sucks. Had it three times this season. You get used to it!!! It really sucks when you are sweating so badly that the poison just runs all over your body. It would be nice if every time you got into some on someone's property, you could just knock on the door really quick and use their shower to get it off in time!
If your lawn isn't done when I drive off, your neighbor owes me some money!

Thats exactly what happened, I was sweating REAL bad when we had a nice little 3 day heat wave, and it just kept running down my arm. I ran my arms under the homeowners hose, but it didn't do much now that I'm looking at it. Well, if you look at it on the flipside, thank god I kept myself from touching my face or i'd have it all over. Boy do I love whinning CYAS

You guys need to be carrying some grain alcohol with you (not for drinking either). Put it in a regular isopropyl alcohol bottle, but use some cheapo, rot-gut 151 proof vodka, or some Everclear. It is a great solvent for the oils from poison ivy. When you know you have been exposed to it, just wash up with it. You need to keep it in an old isopropyl bottle though, as it will be in your vehicle, and no one will question it. If they see half a fifth of 151 vodka, they will get ideas.... Especially the law! Some Dawn dishwashing soap (or other brand that cuts grease real well) may be a better idea though. You HAVE to get those oils off your skin AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!

Jewel weed (touch-me-not) works great as well, and is nearly always found growing near poison ivy. Pull up a few plants, crush the stems good, and rub it all over. It works like a charm, and is the ONLY antidote I know of for itchweed (stinging nettles). You get into that stuff ONE time, and you will learn what works! Jewel weed is ALWAYS found within a few feet of itchweed! At least here in Ohio. Sometimes it is growing right with the itchweed. Man, that itchweed is TORTURE!

I have been exposed to poison ivy several times this year and have never gotten it. I asked my allergest about it and he said that I am just probably NOT allergic to it. Lucky me.

I've always used a combination of Caladryl Clear and Benadryl Allergery medication to combat the histimine. If it's a severe case, a trip to the doctor for a steriod perscription may be in order. There is a soap available that people say works, but I haven't tried it yet. The url for it is: http://www.zanfel.com/

Woody ---------- not to change the subject but Itch weed is a good herb I have harvested it for about five years now and when you get a cold take some dry-ed "nettle" and make a tea out of it,drink it and it sure cleans up the head my wife would not try it for a couple years then she got a bad cold and under a desperate attempt to get rid of it she asked me to make her some nettle tea and it worked wonders, now when she gets even a small cold she asks for the tea "shes hooked"
