What's the best way to get your flyers out there. I recieved a not so friendly call from the post office saying keep your flyers of our mail boxes. Going door to door will just take to long. What do you guys do any ideas? (any other ideas other than flyers to get your name out there too)

Your lucky the post master was in a good mood. Opening someones mailbox to put your flyer inside or anything else for that matter is a FEDERAL OFFENSE. Not something to play with or take lightly.
I prefer door hangers over flyers. You can have a 1000 printed up from some place like NEBS for under $75 bucks. Ours say something like we were in the area servicing other customers and after seeing your lawn we can offer our services for $______ per visit. People I believe like up front pricing without having to listen to some sales pitch. You would be surprised how many customers we have picked up from door hangers doing just this.

I'm always uncomfortable with cutting through yards as I hand out flyers, but we've got some pretty deep setbacks in my area. That makes for alot of walking for the number you put out. Thought about getting a powerboard, like Tanaka PaveRunner to speed things up and make it more enjoyable. Then again, some folks may object more to you riding up there drive on a scooter than cutting across their yard.

i use the same idea as yardworks, only i use pea gravel and i just put in a business card, so that way they can take it out and put it in the rolodex.
i put out 800+ in 3 hours and got 8 callbacks in a few days. no one complained about the flyers, some even said it was genius and cleaver on the phone. got 1 residential account out of the deal, i'm not the cheapest price. that account refered me to a commercial account i had for a few cuts, got lowballed and lost it. but another commercial account drove by one day and stopped me while i was mowing the one i lost and liked my quality work. so i got a better paying commercial account out of the deal and the original residential account.
i also got networked with a guy in town that removes moles and pests from yards. he saw my card in one of the yards he was doing. he gave me the numbers of 2 people that needed their yard rolled because of the moles, they never called back, but it could have been yards needed mowing. we agreed to refer people to one another. the contact from the flyers was worth it.
so yes, flyers are not wildly effective, but an extra $500 a month for 2 accounts recieved because of a flyer run is well worth it! would have been more if i didnt loose the other commercial and got the mole guys jobs. would have been $750 a month.
so is the money and time for a few flyers worth an extra $3000 ($4500 with lost account) dollars or more a year, give or take? i think it is. just to show you that you can only get 1 account off of a flyer run, but wind up with more than you expected from only 1 account from 800+ flyers, especially if you do quality work. so dont be discouraged!
