  • Newbie Needs Help

Have been checking out this site all summer and think its great! Have saved up enough money to purchase a w/b and need your opinions on what size 36 or 48 have not run into any gates this season have 18 customers largest property is 6500sqft. Will probaly go fixed deck and belt. How difficult will it be to adjust hieght on fixed deck? have heard not easy..opinoins please!!

go for the 48 if no gates. Height adjustment is easy, prop the front end up and change the spacers, takes two minutes.

I'd get the 48 to supplement the 21 (I'm assuming this is your present mower). I bought a 32 first and it was awesome but then I got a 52 fixed deck which is now my main mower. It mows twice as fast as the 32. I use it to mow lawns as small as 2,000 sq ft. If there is a gate I don't mind using the 21 because of all the time that is saved with the beast.
I don't usually change the height but on most fixed deck mowers you have about two inches of adjustment with spacers on the front casters, any farther and you'll be changing blade spacers(PIA), something I haven't had to do yet mowing about 35 residential.
Also-- check out Lesco, they have a 48 hydro for $3300! If I could do it over I'd get a hydro though the belt does get it done

Look at the www.gravely.com 48" fixed deck mowers. No spacers to mess with. The deck can be moved between 1"-4" in 15 seconds.

Same with the Toro ProLine mowers. Pull for pins raise deck, put pins back, done.
