  • When do you stop mowing for the season?

I don't know if this has been asked, but when do you stop mowin for the season? This is my first season doing residential lawns and I would like to know when it is a good time to stop cutting....October? November? I just don't want to stop and have a customer call me up to ask when I am going to mow there lawn. Any advise will be helpfull.

    Thanks, Tony

If they are paying per cut, stop cutting when they tell you they think the season is over. Keep making that money as long as possible. Some clients will want you to continue well after others say they feel it is done.

I stop when the snow flies mostly on commercial accounts.

I'm going to stop scheduled cuts on the week of october 31 and let them know it will be on an on call basis after that. Holiday lighting starts in november so I need to free up some time for the more profitable services.

My September invoice going out this week has the following statement:

"Seasonal service will continue until grass goes dormant. This will occur anywhere from late Oct through early December, depending on weather. You will notice less frequent beginning late October."

                  I'm in Northern Va.

I personally don't like the idea of letting the customer decide but that's just me. If you do, someone will call after you have shut down operation for the year, and I wouldn't go out for one customer, no way no how.

Today. Now it is a week of machine maintenance (spent close to a grand on oil/filters/replacement parts today) and winterizing waiting for the rest of the leaves to fall. Clean-ups are in full swing starting Monday.

In November I go to cutting every two weeks until the grass stops growing. This allows me to make money doing leaf clean ups.
