How long before you start clean ups do you start advestising?

Not just for clean ups, but all of your services.

I don't want to be too early, but too late = no work.

My season will start in 5 weeks, mowing in 7.

The problem is, we have 4 ft of snow on the grond. People see flyers for grass and they are not willing to think about it untill it's warm out. Then it seems like they have all gone back with last years guy.

That's tough. Maybe wait just a couple more weeks. I am not really sure. Sorry I can't be more help for you. There are plenty other guys and girls on here from up north than may have a better idea. Hopefully they will be able to help you. Down here in Maryland , we are having 60 degree weather. Seems like spring is just around the corner. I am hoping we can get started the first week in April.

I started passing out flyers last weekend and will continue until the first week in April.. My newspaper ad's will be in the paper this weekend through the entire summer.

I would say, wait another week or two.. At least until most of the snow melts. There is still 6" of snow on the ground here but it will all be gone this weekend with sun and 60F temps! If you wait to long, warm weather can kill you when it suddenly appears and you haven't even started advertising yet..

Where do you put the flyers?? In mailboxes? How else do you get the word out?

I will be putting the flyers in mail boxes, running a news add 4 weeks prior to the starting time and two weeks after.

Also getting the truck logoed and lettered along with a sign made for the gate of the trailer.

It's illegal to put flyers in mailboxes in the U.S.. I don't know about Canada, but you better find out.

Advertising should be started about a month before you start your season, unless you advertise all year round. I run my fall clean-up ads until there is snow on the ground. I start my spring clean-up ads with snow on the ground. Some customers want to get a jump start on the season, so by adverting early you can cater to those customers needs.

In Canada nothing is illegal, I could go for a lunch in a random back yard, and I'll I would get is strange looks.
