My days usually go one of two ways.

    A. Wake up between 5:30 and 6:00 AM make coffee, feed/walk dogs, eat, sit down at computer, look at schedule for the day, and take a peek at the forum. 7:30 call the guys to make sure they are rolling and to see if they need anything. Rest of the day work on anything administrative that needs to be taken care of. Use my car to go to the bank, accountant, customers, etc. Usually around 4:30PM my crew leader swings by my place to go over things.

    B. Same up to 7:00AM then I go meet the guys and work with them on jobs where I'm neeeded. When I get back I do a few hours of paperwork then take it easy any number of ways the rest of the night.

Occasionally I have the chance to spend a day in scenario C.

    C. Wake up whenever I want and do whatever I want.

        LW,
Good for you for learning new strategies to save time and money. Key to being an effective business person is good habits. Plan out every day before you sleep or leave the office. Use a planner or some other template so that it is an easy function. Planning in the morning before working in the feild is a good idea. Use checklists for tools to go on the truck for the scheduled jobs. If you're having problems with carrying tools or finishing a task, write down why it's happening or how. Then write down how you can solve the problem with a system. Some systems are good to develop routines and memory. Sytemize everything you can at first them break them down to the core systems or consolidate them once your flowing smooth. Plan your weeks out on paper and refer to it everyday. Write down anything to remember or do, or a priority.

I meet an employee here at the shop (home) at 8am and load up equipment. I record my start time and how much time we spend on every job until works over. I like to stop working at 4:30 because any later doesn't work in the long run. Thats just a small slice of what I do but I do the same things over and over every week.

            1. Check to see if I won the lottery.
            2. Sing same song I've been singing for the past 24 years to my wife. (Do you love me, by the Contours) Ask wife if my voice has improved enough to launch singing career.
            3. Step naked from the shower and view myself honestly in full length mirror to see if the "instant youth" pills have started to work yet so I can be a Chippendale.
            4. Call my local Marine Corps. recruiter to see if policy has changed and yes they are taking men over 50.
            5. Leave yet another message for J LO that yes I'm married but will consider her and can she call back within 10 minutes.
            6. Call my office and ask my secretary if they really need me today.
            7. Resign myself to the fact that I was probably born a lawn dog, love the business, and anyway since none of the above are ever gonna happen; enjoy it!
