trailers from home depot

the last thing i need for next year is a trailer to pull behind my 4cyl s-10.
unfortunatley right now my only way to get a trailer next year would be at home depot with my store credit card when they have 12 mos. no interest. i have another line of credit i could use and go elsewhere for a trailer, but really don't want to pay interest(10.9% to be exact). they have these pace american work sport trailers at home depot. they don't seem that bad. i could also go to lowes, they had some decent ones, or so it seems. then they had ones that looked like full side bed frames with wheels. lol.. how much would a 6x12 enclosed weigh? they had one at home depot that i was looking at, looked nice. would something like this be to much to pull for a s-10 with 4cyl engine? i'd get electric brakes put on it to help with the stopping, but i guess the pulling is what i'm worried about. all the equipment i have right now is a quick36, a 300lb aerator, Honda 21", and some echo stuff. just under 1,000 lbs of equipment. combined with the trailer weight, would the enclosed 6x12 be a bad idea? i'm badly in need of a trailer for next year, operating part time out of the s-10 this year was a real *****.

Sell the s-10 and buy a used U-haul box van. I bet the moving ramp would even work for loading purposes with such small (in width) equipment.

do you really need the enclosed? If not, just get an open. Your truck should be able to pull it, would be slow as hell and you'd be engaging the clutch ever so slowly to get going. I picked up my open 5x8 (getting a 14ft next year) from Lowes. Built like a 'real' trailer compared to the ones they were selling at Home Cheapo. Those looked like they were built of plastic, I don't know, maybe they're different around the country.
If you are just trying to get a trailer and have a place to store the equipment, get the open if cash is tight. You can always make signs for the side and rear tail gate.

i live in a condo, so i store all my equipment in a storage unit. i have a small space right now at $45 per month where i can hardly fit everything, but its perfect for storing my equipment over the winter. so far i have been planning to get an open trailer, then getting a larger storage space at $110 a month to park the open trailer in with the equipment on it. however, what i've been thinking is that it might be better tp get that enclosed trailer to park in the secured parking lot at the storage place for $30 a month. saving me $80 a month which is money i can put towards the purchase of the enclosed. i like the idea of the enclosed because i can keep my stuff locked up., safe from the weather.. etc. the box truck idea sounds like something i might check into as well. as far as homedepot trailers go, i wouldn't buy their open trailers, the only good one they had was RED and seemed to cost to much for what it was. i liked the ones i saw at lowes, i might end up going there if i get an open trailer. i guess i could always rent an enclosed trailer from uhaul for a day and see how it goes.

Make sure if you get the enclosed and park it in the open area that you really take all methods to secure it....My parents manage and live onsite of a storage facility. They have had more trouble out in the open areas, breaking out windows to steal stereos and such. Check to see if they have cameras back there, doesnt matter if its well lit, that is just so they can see what they are stealing..anyway I think I would rather pay a little more. You could use both....unload you equipment inside ($45) and park trailer in open part ($30) save you $35 every month under the $110.

yea, even w/ an enclosed, their is still the chance of breaking the locks off. I would go for the storage/open trailer scenario. Couple reasons, you have a bigger area to work in; the open trailer can be used for hauling stuff; and with a small truck it would be easier to pull.
The trailer I got from lowes has held up good. Only thing I did was put pressure treated boards on it to stiffen it up and so I can put stuff on it, without worrying about it falling through.
A friend of mine has the same trailer but bought it at Tractor Supply Co. and he takes it offroading w/ him lol . Beats the pi$$ outta it, but it has held up good.

I bought 2 6X16' dual axle trailers off of ebay. One was $790 the other was $690. The more expensive one had electric brakes. Anyway, they are open trailers that are fairly light for a 16'. They also sell 12 and 14's. Just a thought if you were looking for something inexpensive to get started with. They have held up pretty well for me. The lights could be better but other than that their pretty decent.

me, i would go with the enclosed. they have after market lock protecters you could install on it to prevent theives. they have all kinds of little mecanizems that you could install, but lets face it, a theif could get into your storage unit just as easy as a enclosed trailer. they key is to get theft insurance on your equipment, because lets face it, its your cheese maker. I was in your same situation about 2 months ago, i was gonna get a 6x12, after thinking a little, seeing that i would eventually get bigger i went and bought 7x16 tandem with electric brakes. because every one i talked to said i would evenyually grow out of a 6x12. hope their right! as for your little truck pulling the trailer, i know for a fact it will pull it! my buddy up north FL has a Mazda truck 4 cylinder, he has been pulling his 6x12 for 3yrs now. and to top it off, his truck has like a million miles on it.

good point. i think i made up my mind tho.. i'm gonna go with a 5x10 open trailer. i measured it out a little while ago, marked it off on the concrete. i could fit everything i have in a 5x10. the 21" mower and my aerator fit side by side towards the front, the quick36 w/ grass catcher fit behind that. got room for a few garbage cans near the back gate.. then all i need is to get me a trimmer trap w/ blower rack on there. and i'm good to go, with plenty of room in the bed of my truck. i can easily fit the 5x10 in the bigger storage unit with probally a little extra room for a place where i can sharpen my blades and work on things when the trailer is outside. i'm gonna be doing more spraying than cutting in the future, so gotta save for a bigger truck that i can put a skid sprayer in, atleast 300gal.

I have a 6 x 10 enclosed and put a 60 inch exmark z in it and I would never go back to open,you have the bed of your truck to haul brush in and I pulled mine with a nissan for 4 years no problem, I put a battery in mine and put a cheap auto zone alarm on it and everybody heard the "chirp" when I pushed my key chain just like a regular alarm and I think that alone stops any "ideas" but the biggest reason I will never go back to an open trailer is I now have a place to take a wiz without leaving the area to stand in line at the 7-11-----I have mentioned before on here that I use my enclosed trailer to be professional about where I choose to answer natures call and those that seem to enjoy pissin in the bushes have had a few laughs but I tell ya , I have gotten accounts because people have grown tired of having there bushes "over fertilized " by the non-professionals,,,, each to his own.
