fertalizer and no water

i have a customer who put fertalizer on his yard 2 weeks ago and never put any water on it. it has been over a month since we have had any rain so it was very dry to start with now it is very brown. i asked him what he put out and how much he says 4 bags but does not know what he put out. is there anything that can be done for thisnow or just wait and see if it comes back. it is st. augustine and looks like it has had 2 heavy frost on it. i told him for now to water it about an hour every other day. ANY SUGGESTIONS
