  • Asphalt shingle cleaning

I have a client who has requested a price to "clean" some of the shingles on his roof. He has a downspout from the second story that empties the rainwater onto the first story roof leaving black clolored stains on the shingles. Does anyone know of a way to clean this off? I appreciate any help or comments on this one. Thanks

    Scott

If it doesn't clean the shingles it will at least eat them away so they can be replaced.

Be careful with caustic soda it is very dangerous. It can eat your eyes out before you feel it burning. It will take the paint off any thing. One of its main uses is to clean the inside of copper radiators. It is very Hydrophilic and needs a lot of water to keep it active. BTW don't breath the fumes either.

yup, you're exactly right but that stuff sure does make cleaning roofs easier, and always, always, always wear proper PPE, ie; rubber gloves, long pants, respirator and some wear rubber boots too.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll have to go back and see if he wants to do this. Its more involved than I thought it would be. I appreciate you guys letting me know the dangers, I haven't worked with that stuff before. Thanks again.
