  • double blades

i see posts about running double blades, whether it be all season or just for leaves. my question about this is, does this hurt the mower at all? the mower to me is built to have what comes with it. i would think the extra weight would cause an imbalance or whatever. i have seen the gravely pictures that actually have it but what about my exmark or for that matter the other brands?

Depends on the mower I would guess. I tried it on my Scag 48" WB, and I felt it overloaded the mower signifigantly. In my view, the finer clippings weren't worth the extra wear and tear I was putting on my investment.

I do it. As long as your blades are balanced, in theory you shouldn't hurt anything. I've had no problem with them after over a year's worth of use. Just engage your blades slower since you have a manual engagement. Just keep an extra deck belt around in case, as that would most likely what would go from stress of having to initially turn the spindles.
