  • Merry Christmas!

I try to do it every day, but at Christmas when life slows down for a while, it's a great time to take stock of all the things I have to be grateful for. For some reason unknown to me, God has decided to take an interest in my life. Sometimes, I think he just wants to see what I might do next!

It finally soaked through my thick skull about two years ago that God gives us all "our own head".... the complete freedom to pursue our dreams, whatever they are. God lets us do what we want and he also lets us live with the outcomes we create. All the while, he's hoping we'll chose to do the "good thing"... on our own. God is the sum of all that's positive and good and constructive in the Universe and I think he wants a family of others who desire to be on the same path. Much like letting a child sit on your lap and "drive", I think it makes God smile when we keep it "out of the ditches".

Over the ages, in an effort to show us the wonderful outcome of being on his team, God has sent us many messengers. Abraham was the first. Buddah, Mohammed... all good men with God's positive message. I believe that God wants so badly for us to see the power of His goodness that he even caused a man to be born and called him his son. Jesus was sent as the example of what we all can be. Jesus never put up with foolishness or double-talk. He was strong and straight and honest. He always gave people the benefit of the doubt and treated them with real love and respect. He provided to us the example of treating people as you would be treated. Of doing the "good thing" every chance we get. The birthday of that life, our Brother, the Son of God is what we celebrate each year.

All good wishes to you and your families for a Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year!

    Merry Christmas Everybody!

In memory of my wonderful Swedish Grandmother and her Christmas stories ... I give you this:

    När första ljuset brinner

    står julens dörr på glant

    och jubelpsalmen klingar

    i helig tid advent.

    När andra ljuset brinner

    Ÿr snart Lucia här

    Hon bjuder oss på kaffe

    Och bud om julen bär

    När tredje ljuset brinner

    Vi julklappar sy

    Och mor hon bakar kakor

    Och har för farligt bry.

    När fjärde ljuset brinner

    Vi hämtar julegran

    Och alla barnen räknar

Dan före dan före doppare dan.

      The translation ...

      When the first candle burns

The door to Christmas cracks open

And the joyful psalm rings in

      The holy time, Advent.

      When the second candle burns

      Lucia is soon here

      She invite us for coffee

And carries the message of Christmas.

      When the third candle burns

      We sew Christmas presents

      And mother bakes cookies

      And has too awful worries.

      When the fourth candle burns

      We fetch the Christmas tree

      And all the children count

The day before the day before dipping day*

*(Christmas Eve is sometimes called doppare dan or dipping day, a reference to the traditional custom of dipping slices of bread into the broth of the simmering Christmas ham and sausages as part of the Christmas Eve noon meal.)
