anyone know when the best time to start mowing for the manhattan, ks area would be???? - its around topeka if anyone doesn't know. this is my first year in the biz and can't quite remember when i started mowing my own lawn...im thinking mid april or may but also think that's a bit late

Here in northern IL we start April 1, finish end of Nov. on contracts. I've mowed my own lawn up to Dec. 12 here. I grew up in Wichita and typically the weather is 2 weeks better there. By that I mean the season is about two weeks longer on each end. You may be able to start between mid March and April 1, and go till between Nov. 30 and first or second week in Dec.
Thats about the limitations from the weather, then it depends on the grass I guess as to when it goes dormant and wakes up. Here its cool season grasses and a mild Dec can have the grass growing slowly through the middle of Dec.
