  • Finally Got Today!!!!!!!!!

Picked up my brand new Dixie Chopper XT3200-72 (thats 32 hp and 72" cut) today after being on order for 3 loooong weeks!LOL! It is HUGE and I love it. It is going to be perfect for what I will be using it for.
Wow, I did not not realize how well built these things were, they are like a tank. I can't wait to mow a large propety with it. I mowed my back yard and it took about 3 min and couldn't even get up to half speed. This thing will cruise at a cool 15 MPH. It is going to be a perfect addition to my other equipment!

Funny fact: About a month ago my friends nissan sentra broke down and I went and picked it up in my 20' landscape trailer. It had about 7" on each side after getting it in the trailer. My new baby (XT3200-72) only has about 2-3 " on each side, and probably weighs about the same too! LOL!!

        Hey Mr Mow,
Did you end up getting the mulching kit for that baby? If so, I would really like to know how you like it, and what kind of striping etc. You are going to mow up the wide open spaces you do. Just send one of your smaller mowers around the building once, and then break out the Chopper! Maybe you can post a picture for us - so that we can be more jealous than we already are!!

            No not yet!

Yeah.. how much did it set you back?..

Yeh it will be paid for by july! I have 11 large commercial accounts (4-8 acres) that pay on a 40 week contract. The 8 acres are not fields eilther, they are kept sprayed and fertalized and look just as nice as any smaller property.
(the dixie cost less than my 26 hp efi walker did last year) Well lets just say that the retail price for them are 10,900 but paid about 20% less and no taxes. I got a great deal and it is going to make me money hand over fist. I have a walker 48 ghs and the 74" deck. Last season when I only had 4 of these accounts, I used to switch between the decks. Now that I have 11 of them, the switching of the decks and the slow speed of the walker would not be able to do all of that. I use the walker48" for about 1 acre around the buildings where they want it bagged and the dixie -72" for the rest.

Does DC even have a Mulching Kit ? Jack D. believes that only OCDC's & double blade brackets are avail. for these units. Good enough for large riders.

Those big props should be a breeze to handle with the big cutting decks you wisely have chosen but i was wondering what kind of speed you can actually mow at ,before the cut quality takes a dive ....

I would think that although the machine will actually move at 15 mph there would be insufecient time for the grass blades to spring back up and have time to actually cut cleanly...I`ve found 6 mph the max with a well kept lawn..Can you actually mow at 15mph??? If so please wear a helmet and protective gear...........

Sounds like the large lawns are well kept and never overgrown...Have you ever considerred a pull behind gang setup??? I`ve seen these at golf courses and if the blades are kept sharp they really tear the acre ,cut /time ratio down ,plus have a beautyfull cut ....Granted they are not for everyone, especially overgrown lawns, or areas that are not clear of debris...Blade sharpness would be hard to keep up, and a real pain if debris is passed through them, but i`ve been told they hold their sharpness well with clean grass... For the average L.C guy they probably would not be appropriate but you mow some good size, well maintained accounts..

Anyway i was curious if anyone has taken advantage of ,or had any experience with these "mass acre eaters"..

12+ ft cut that you can pull behind anything includeing ATV`s $2900 new...

Have fun, and good luck with the new machine regardless...I`m sure it was a wise investment with your multiple large acreage accounts!!Stay under 10 mph and keep the wheel bearings well greased dureing the initial 300 acre break in period Sincerely ,Trans

I haven't owned one, but have demo'd a couple and yes they will actually cut at 15mph. It's not that your waiting for the grass blade to spring back up, the vacuum created from the blades PULLS the grass blade up into the cutting path. The cut is for the most part equivalent to any of the ZTR's on the market, but I just didn't like how bad the ride was if the ground wasn't extrememly smooth. Seemed to have a lot of bounce. Although I think the newer models offer a different tire that should correct that problem.

Transman, yes you can mow at 15 mph, but I average probably 10-12 mph.

My properties are very smooth and the ride is not bad. I demoed a lot of different models and the dixie had the best ride mainly because it's base is much much wider than all the other midmounts. The XT and XW series are even wider than all the other dixie models. I demoed some midmounts that after a day of mowing would just beat the living day lights out of you. I don't know if the older modles were that way or not, but the extra width is a major reason I bought the dixie.

Being nosy I`m dieing to ask what people in Oklahoma pay to have 8 acres cut...I havent noticed any other threads dealing in what kind of money people are paying ,or chargeing for cuts this size ,and how it varies from state to state...If it`s personal and you`d rather not say i understand...

Any idea what amount of time it actually takes you to cut 8 acres with the mower you had ,and ideas on how much time the new unit will save..I`de like to compare real world time against the time represented in the deck inch/ time required to cut formulas i see on some dealer sites....I know obstacles and other variables make for a differance but would like to see a comparison anyway...I guess in Oklahoma getting 10 acre cuts may be normal ,or is this somthing you are grabbing the market on, because others cant handle it???

25 mph ,Hmmm..Are you in this picture???? OHH wrong pictures.. This is the Briggs class that hit 85 mph....

Well nosy-tranny, LOL!, I have a 10 acre property that used to be a field. I mowed it every week last year with my walker 74" (6.5 mph max) and it is very smooth. It took me a 3.75 hours. There is not one obstacle (WIDE OPEN), I plan on being able to mow it with the dixie in less than 2 hours and probably mor like 1.5 hours, and it pay $350.

                            `

I will update you when I have a better comparison. I know what I did last year with my walker, so here in a week or so when I start I will update you on the actual difference. (I start next week).

No it is not real normal. I am going this route because yes most other people can't handle it. 10 acre cuts are not normal. I have 1- 10 acre cut, 4- 7 acre cuts, 5- 5 acre cuts, and severel 2-4 acre cuts. Most of wich are commercial. I have 2- 3+ acre residentials and a couple 1-2 acre cuts.

Transman, i worked at a golf course for 14 years before goin this route. those pull behind gang mowers do a fairly nice job, but you have to mow more often, and you tend to leave tire tracks from whatever you are pulling it with. Actually the golf course i worked at went to pull behind rotary, didnt have the problem with the tire tracks. http://www.lastec.com/ this was the mower we were using when i left
