i'm in dayton and i use my local guy who is a broker for erie insurance. i got 1 million in liability for under $300. the way he explained it to me was that it hinged on how many employees, what type of work you do, and how much money you intend to turn over.i got in good with the guy and he explained that he is the one who decides what category to put you in. i explained that i do trees occasionally as well, he told me that the premium all depends on the percantage spent on each type of service determines the going rate. so 85% mowing and mulching and 15% tree work, and i got in for under $300. he also explained if i brought my homeowners and truck insurance under the m it would go even lower. haven't pursued that option yet, i'm going to look into it when the policy comes up for renewal.
check with your homeowner policy holder they might have an option like this that could get you a good rate.

      I have a million for 300 a year also, ohio insurance consultants,513-671-2700
ask for Howard, anyway he was most interested how many years I had been mowing, I believe they wanted 2 years in biz, in your current area, I have had this policy through German Mutual for years, and also have all my other stuff insured through them, had a new $16,000 camper burn on a trip and they paid up promptly, havent had any lawn claims as I have a $500 deductible. Whatever you do or whoever you go with, you can check out the company by getting thier ( AM BEST ) rating from the internet, it rates all of em based on customers dealings etc.. you want at least double A (AA) German mutuals was triple A way back when I signed on,shouldnt be too hard to search for those ratings, some independent insurance guys may throw a name at you that you've never heard but may in fact be a great company,GOOD LUCK!

While I am on the other end of the state, I use Nationwide. They cover my homeowners, all vehicles, health insurance, and business liability of 1 million dollars. FOr the business liability I pay a little more, like around $500.00 a year or so. I have NEVER had a problem with Nationwide, my local agent is a great guy, and they are located in Columbus (take 270 around the west side of the city once). Plus, when things get hectic and I don't have time to go through my mail, my agent will call and let me know a payment is due. I can stop by his office and hand him a check, a 5 minute ordeal, and be on my merry way.

If you are thinking of going with Nationwide, become a member of the Ohio Farm Bereau. It gives you a big discount, and you get breaks on other things. Your local agent can fill you in.

Jeez, I don't know. I think it's the secret spices the Greeks use. I came down there to visit a couple years ago & the minite I got off the plane I was psyched when I saw the Skyline right in the Delta terminal. ahhhh Heaven. Went to a Reds game... there they were again. A franchise would kill up in this neck-a-the woods. Gotta go I can't talk about it anymore-- I'm CRAVIN' a coney!

I just ate Skyline a couple days ago! Ha ha!

As for insurance, Last year we had Indiana Insurance. Agent was through Gibb Associates. Good company, but rates were a little higher. This year we switched over to an agent that went through Cincinnati Insurance, which I think is a subsidiary of Cincinnati Financial. They too are suppose to be a good company. I did save about $3k per year switching over.

I don't know the exact amount for just the liability, ours is all wrapped up in a package. And they would charge you less if you have less employees.

P.S. another thing I have found around Cinci that many others don't even know is Goetta. Very German food. One of my employees went to a 'German food only' restaraunt in another state, and he swears they didn't even know what it was.
